Job Overview:
The Project coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Technical Coordinator plays a crucial role in providing overall technical leadership and coordination for the implementation of project interventions within the Moyale cross-border context. This position is essential for ensuring that the project activities are integrated, high-quality, and sensitive to conflict dynamics. The coordinator will support various aspects of project management, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of technical activities aimed at enhancing climate resilience, peace, sustainable livelihoods, and disaster preparedness in cross-border communities of Ethiopia and Kenya, specifically under the RECAP project. The role requires effective collaboration with technical teams, field staff, partners, and local communities to ensure that all project interventions are well-coordinated, evidence-based, and aligned with the approved workplans and donor requirements. The ideal candidate will be expected to facilitate positive change and build sustainable working relationships, embodying the core competencies that VSO values.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Technical Coordinator will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Leading the technical planning and execution of project activities in accordance with the established workplans and donor requirements.
  • Coordinating with various stakeholders, including technical teams, field staff, and community partners, to ensure effective implementation of project interventions.
  • Monitoring and evaluating project activities to assess their impact and effectiveness, making necessary adjustments to improve outcomes.
  • Reporting on project progress and challenges to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to field staff and partners to enhance their capacity in implementing project activities.
  • Engaging with local communities to foster participation and ownership of project initiatives, ensuring that interventions are culturally appropriate and context-sensitive.
  • Contributing to the development of project documentation, including reports, case studies, and best practices, to share lessons learned and inform future programming.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Project Technical Coordinator position must possess a range of qualifications, including:
  • A strong understanding of project management principles and practices, particularly in the context of international development.
  • Proven experience in technical coordination and leadership within similar projects, particularly those focused on climate resilience, peacebuilding, and sustainable livelihoods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including community members, partners, and donors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex situations and develop effective strategies for intervention.
  • A commitment to VSO's values and mission, with a passion for empowering marginalized communities and promoting sustainable development.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes:
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international development, environmental science, social sciences, or a related discipline.
  • A master's degree is preferred and may be advantageous in demonstrating advanced knowledge and expertise in project management and technical areas relevant to the role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in project management and technical coordination, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in international development settings. Experience working in cross-border contexts and familiarity with the socio-political dynamics of the regions involved will be highly beneficial. Candidates should also demonstrate a track record of successful project implementation and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with external partners. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the project areas, such as Somali or Amharic, would be considered an asset and is highly desirable to facilitate effective communication with local communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time role with a fixed-term contract lasting for one year. The annual basic salary for this position is KES 3,306,68
