Job Overview: The Protection Assistant - Child Protection role is crucial in delivering safe, confidential, and child-centered case management services to Unaccompanied and Separated Children (UASC) and other vulnerable children at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and violence. The position requires the individual to ensure that children and their caregivers receive appropriate support and referrals in accordance with child safeguarding principles and Best Interest Procedures (BIP). The role involves project implementation, coordination, and reporting, as well as developing relationships with Child Protection case management actors. The Protection Assistant will conduct assessments, manage cases, and provide ongoing support to families and alternative care systems, ensuring that the needs of vulnerable children are met effectively. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining documentation and participating in relevant meetings to advocate for children's rights and needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Protection Assistant - Child Protection include:
Implementing project activities related to child protection case management.
Coordinating with Child Protection Officers and Protection Team leaders to strengthen relationships with case management actors.
Providing case management services for vulnerable children, including conducting assessments and identifying potential caregivers.
Conducting home visits to assess living conditions and provide ongoing support.
Documenting case files and updating records in the ProGres V4 system.
Representing DRC in field-based Child Protection meetings.
Participating in case conferences and inter-agency coordination meetings.
Maintaining networks with service providers to ensure quality services for children.
Contributing to the drafting of reports and documenting project successes and challenges. 1
Mentoring Para Social Workers and community-based structures on case management procedures. 1
Planning logistics for field movements and adhering to DRC procedures. 1
Performing additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Protection Assistant - Child Protection position include:
Professional training in Best Interest Procedure processes and CP case management.
Knowledge of ProGres V4 CP module.
Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
Experience in protection interventions related to refugee operations and child protection.
Basic knowledge of disaster risk mitigation and anticipatory approaches.
Experience working with UN or Non-Governmental organizations.
A valid motorcycle riding permit and the ability to ride a motorcycle.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Community Development, or Guidance and Counseling. Additionally, professional training in Best Interest Procedure processes and child protection case management is essential. Knowledge of the ProGres V4 CP module is also required, along with basic computer skills in MS Word and Excel.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of experience working with children and vulnerable communities, particularly in protection programming or child protection advocacy programs. Experience in child protection case management, UASC programming, or working in humanitarian or refugee contexts is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse communities.
Additional Notes: The contract length for this position is 11 months, with a designation of Duty Station in Bidibidi. The expected start date is February 202
