Job Overview:
The Project Associate for the SHIELD project will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of initiatives aimed at enhancing the Belgian child protection system, particularly for unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) in irregular situations. This position requires close collaboration with the Head of Unit for Labour Migration and Social Inclusion (LMI) to ensure that project activities are executed effectively and in alignment with the project's objectives. The candidate will be responsible for coordinating various project activities, monitoring progress, and liaising with stakeholders to ensure that the project meets its goals. Additionally, the role involves assisting in policy support and outreach efforts, which includes identifying potential partnerships and drafting presentations and reports. The candidate will also contribute to the development of new projects and initiatives within the LMI unit, making this position integral to the organization's mission of safeguarding vulnerable populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the implementation of the SHIELD project by coordinating project activities, following up on work plans, and organizing events such as steering committees and focus group discussions.
  • Liaise with partners and stakeholders to ensure effective project monitoring and provide necessary information to the project donor.
  • Coordinate with internal units at IOM, including finance and legal teams, on budget management, contracts, and procurement processes.
  • Draft final narrative and financial reports for submission to the donor.
  • Assist in identifying potential partnerships with civil society organizations, government entities, and other stakeholders.
  • Draft conference presentations and speeches for the LMI Head of Unit or Chief of Mission.
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings and conferences related to Labour Migration and Inclusion.
  • Support the LMI team in developing new projects, including drafting concept notes and identifying funding opportunities.
  • Perform any other tasks as required to support the LMI unit and the SHIELD project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in political science, social science, migration studies, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with three years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a completed High School degree and a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience will also be considered. Proven working experience in project management and familiarity with project monitoring and data analysis tools are essential. Knowledge of migration-related areas is advantageous, as are strong organizational, time-management, communication, and diplomatic skills. The ability to work independently under tight deadlines is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree or higher in fields such as political science, social science, or migration studies from an accredited academic institution. Candidates with a completed High School degree may qualify if they have significant professional experience in relevant areas. Accredited institutions are those recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received a quality education that meets international standards.

Experience:
Candidates should have a proven track record of working in project management, with specific experience in project monitoring and the use of data analysis tools. The role requires a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience for those with a Bachelor’s degree, or five years for those with a High School diploma. Experience in migration-related fields is considered an asset, as it will enhance the candidate's ability to contribute effectively to the SHIELD project and the broader objectives of the LMI unit.

Languages:
Fluency in English, French, and Dutch is mandatory for this position, both in oral and written forms. These languages are essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders. IOM's official languages also include Spanish, and proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not required. Language skills will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the necessary communication standards.

Additional Notes:
This position is part-time, with working hours set at 32 hours per week. Any job offer is contingent upon funding confirmation, and the selection process may be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar roles for up to 24 months.
