Job Overview: The Protection Officer-GBV is tasked with implementing high-quality GBV prevention and response activities at the field level. This role is crucial in ensuring that survivors receive safe, confidential, and survivor-centered case management, psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support, and effective referral services. The officer will engage with community members to promote positive gender norms and mitigate GBV risks while overseeing the daily implementation of GBV-related activities. The position requires a proactive approach to project development, risk assessment, and community engagement, ensuring that all activities align with national laws and organizational policies. The officer will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records and facilitating awareness-raising activities to advocate for GBV prevention within the community.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Officer-GBV will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: developing and implementing GBV prevention and response projects, conducting protection risk assessments, engaging community members to promote positive gender norms, and overseeing the quality implementation of GBV activities. The officer will facilitate psychosocial support sessions, support the operation of Women and Girls’ Safe Spaces, and ensure that survivors have access to necessary services. Additionally, the officer will maintain accurate GBV case files, manage high-risk cases, and support rapid GBV risk assessments. Coordination with stakeholders, representation in local GBV working groups, and collaboration with other sectors within DRC are also key responsibilities. The officer will provide technical leadership to GBV case workers, ensuring compliance with case management standards and fostering a positive working environment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or Community Psychology. They should have demonstrated experience in GBV case management and psychosocial support, along with a strong understanding of GBV guiding principles and Inter-Agency GBV Minimum Standards. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage sensitive information with confidentiality. Proficiency in MS Office and basic data management tools is required, along with experience working with UN or non-governmental organizations. Knowledge of GBV prevention approaches and familiarity with monitoring and evaluation for UN-funded projects are also desirable qualifications.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Social Work, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or Community Psychology. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of gender-based violence and the necessary interventions to support survivors effectively.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in GBV prevention and response programming is required for this role. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in humanitarian, refugee, or emergency settings, demonstrating their ability to navigate the challenges associated with these environments and effectively support vulnerable populations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all applications and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset, enhancing the officer's ability to engage with diverse community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is offered on a contract basis for a duration of 11 months, with a designated duty station in Bidibidi, Uganda. The expected start date for this role is February 202
