Job Overview:
The Protection Team Leader is a pivotal role within the Danish Refugee Council, responsible for overseeing the implementation of protection activities at the field level. This position requires strong leadership skills to ensure that protection services are delivered effectively and in accordance with humanitarian principles and organizational policies. The role emphasizes the importance of protection mainstreaming, safeguarding, and the centrality of protection in all activities. The Protection Team Leader will coordinate with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, local NGOs, and government authorities, to ensure a collaborative approach to protection efforts. The position also involves project development, implementation, and monitoring, ensuring that all activities align with established protection standards and guidelines. The successful candidate will be expected to foster a positive working environment, support staff development, and uphold the organization's values and principles.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Team Leader will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: maintaining effective relationships with donors and stakeholders; representing DRC in local protection sector meetings; coordinating project implementation with UNHCR and other partners; developing project work plans and budgets; providing technical support to the protection team; overseeing protection case management processes; ensuring compliance with protection standards; developing advocacy strategies; monitoring financial commitments; and preparing timely reports. Additionally, the role includes staff management responsibilities such as conducting performance appraisals, identifying training needs, and fostering a positive team environment. The Protection Team Leader will also manage all protection projects in the Imvepi settlement, ensuring adherence to donor regulations and organizational guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Protection Team Leader position, candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Guidance and Counselling, or Law. A postgraduate qualification in project planning and management is considered an asset. Candidates should have at least five years of experience working with refugees or vulnerable communities, with a minimum of two years in a supervisory or leadership role. Proven experience in protection case management and community-based protection is essential, along with strong leadership, mentoring, and team management skills. In-depth knowledge of gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and safeguarding standards is required. Excellent communication and reporting skills, as well as proficiency in MS Office and data management tools, are also necessary.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Development Studies, Guidance and Counselling, or Law. A postgraduate degree or training in project planning and management is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of protection work and the legal frameworks surrounding it.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience, particularly in working with refugees and vulnerable communities. Candidates should have a strong background in basic needs and distribution programming, as well as advocacy programs. At least two years of experience in a supervisory or team leadership role is essential, demonstrating the ability to lead and manage a team effectively. Experience working with UN or non-governmental organizations is highly desirable, as it provides insight into the operational standards and expectations within the humanitarian sector.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Additional language skills relevant to the local context may be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to communicate effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for a duration of 11 months, with a designated duty station in Imvepi. The expected start date for the role is February 202
