Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of various projects under the guidance of the Project Analyst and in collaboration with the Co-Chairs of the Technical Committee on Environment. This position requires a proactive approach to assist in the execution of project activities, ensuring compliance with UNDP regulations and policies. The Project Assistant will be responsible for maintaining updated databases, preparing reports on project progress, and participating in project-related events. The role also involves managing contract administration, supporting environmental proposals, and facilitating stakeholder consultations. The Project Assistant will contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building within the project team, ensuring that best practices are disseminated and lessons learned are documented.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Assistant will carry out a variety of tasks, including:
Supporting the coordination and implementation of project activities, ensuring compliance with UNDP rules and regulations.
Preparing regular updates and reports on project progress and emerging issues.
Participating in project activities such as meetings and conferences.
Managing contract administration with service providers, ensuring timely payments and compliance with contractual obligations.
Digitizing project documents and maintaining organized records.
Supporting the design and implementation of environmental proposals and stakeholder consultations.
Providing administrative and logistical support for project events, including meetings and training sessions.
Assisting in project finance management and procurement processes. 1
Supporting knowledge building and capacity development activities, including training and dissemination of best practices.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess secondary education as a minimum requirement. A university degree (Bachelor’s Level Degree) in an Environmental discipline such as Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Ecology is preferred but not mandatory. Proficiency in computer usage and office software packages (e.g., MS Word, Excel) is essential. Desired skills include experience in project monitoring, event management, public relations, and communication, as well as familiarity with environmental projects in Cyprus and bi-communal initiatives. Knowledge of UNDP rules and regulations is also advantageous.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes secondary education as a baseline, with a preference for candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental discipline. This educational foundation will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support project activities and contribute to the organization's mission.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant working experience for candidates with secondary education, or two years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in programme or project support, particularly in the context of environmental initiatives, is highly valued. Familiarity with UN or international organizations and their operational frameworks will be beneficial for candidates.
Languages: Fluency in English and Greek is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the project team and with stakeholders.
