Job Overview: The Online Volunteer position is designed to support UNDP’s Governance and Peacebuilding work in The Gambia, specifically focusing on promoting inclusive, accountable, and gender-responsive security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security sector institutions. The volunteer will contribute to the research report titled 'Women in the Security Sector: Barriers, Opportunities, and Reform in The Gambia,' which aims to identify barriers to women's participation and leadership in the security sector and suggest reforms. The role involves enhancing the analytical rigor and policy relevance of the report, ensuring it serves as a credible knowledge product for advocacy and decision-making with national stakeholders. This task is crucial for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be responsible for several key tasks: reviewing the draft research report to ensure clarity, coherence, and logical flow; editing the document to strengthen analysis, conclusions, and recommendations from a gender and governance perspective; ensuring consistency in terminology, structure, and referencing throughout the report; providing suggestions to improve readability and presentation for diverse stakeholders; and supporting the finalization of the report in accordance with UNDP quality standards. The volunteer is also expected to maintain close coordination with the Governance and Peacebuilding Team through calls on platforms such as Skype, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong analytical and editing skills, particularly in the context of gender and governance. A background in social sciences, gender studies, or a related field is preferred. The ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders is essential. Familiarity with UNDP's mission and the Sustainable Development Goals will be advantageous. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and inclusive governance.
Educational Background: A degree in social sciences, gender studies, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in gender and governance issues will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in research, analysis, or editing, particularly in areas related to gender and governance. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, especially in the context of security sector reform, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP's work and the Sustainable Development Goals will enhance a candidate's suitability for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as the report will be written in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the Gambian context, would be considered a plus but is not required.
