Job Overview:
The Medical Specialist position at UNICEF involves providing high-quality occupational health services and ensuring the timely administration of pre-placement, periodic, and travel clearances globally. This role is crucial in supporting the onboarding process, especially in light of UNICEF's Future Focus Initiative, which anticipates a significant recruitment and placement exercise involving approximately 750-1,000 positions worldwide starting in August 202
  • The Medical Specialist will report to the HR Manager (Onboarding) and will be responsible for liaising with various internal and external partners, including the GSSC Onboarding team, UNICEF staff globally, and other health-related entities. The position requires a proactive approach to managing occupational health and clinical duties, as well as medico-administrative responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Specialist will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Providing occupational health services to UNICEF staff, ensuring compliance with health regulations and standards.
  • Administering pre-placement medical clearances and periodic health assessments for staff.
  • Coordinating travel health clearances and advising on health risks associated with travel.
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and databases related to staff health.
  • Collaborating with the GSSC Onboarding team to streamline the onboarding process for new hires.
  • Liaising with external health partners, including medical associations and pharmaceutical companies, to ensure access to necessary health services.
  • Participating in health promotion initiatives and providing guidance on occupational safety and health matters.
  • Engaging with senior management and staff counselors to address health-related concerns within the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Doctorate (MD) or equivalent in medicine, including completion of residency or internship in a medical specialty, preferably in internal medicine or occupational medicine. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible clinical experience in medicine is required, with a preference for experience in Occupational Medicine. Knowledge of medical software, databases, and medical statistics is highly desirable. Experience working within the UN system or in a large industry setting is also considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a Doctorate (MD) or equivalent in medicine. Candidates should have completed a residency or internship in a relevant medical specialty, with a strong preference for those specializing in internal medicine or occupational medicine. Continuous professional development and training in occupational health practices are also beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible clinical experience in medicine. Candidates with experience specifically in Occupational Medicine will be given preference. Familiarity with medical software and databases, as well as experience in large organizations or the UN system, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile, particularly in a global organization like UNICEF where multilingual communication is valued.
