Job Overview: The position of Monitor de Gobernanza involves facilitating and supporting the Secretaría de Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional (SESAN) in strengthening governance in nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food and nutrition security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security at the municipal and community levels. The role is based in San Gaspar Ixchil – Colotenango, Huehuetenango, and requires collaboration with various stakeholders to promote food security initiatives. The monitor will be responsible for supporting municipal monitors in awareness processes, coordinating project proposals, and ensuring the integration of food security into municipal planning and budgeting. This position is crucial for ensuring that community needs are met and that actions are culturally relevant and participatory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the municipal monitor of SESAN in awareness processes regarding food and nutrition security (SAN) among municipal and community groups.
Accompany the SESAN monitor in COMUDE and COMUSAN sessions, providing updated information on proposals and community processes related to SAN.
Facilitate coordination between SESAN monitors and social promoters to include SAN projects in municipal development council budgets.
Assist in formulating territorial projects to access municipal funds and integrate SAN into municipal planning instruments.
Document all community and municipal processes through minutes, reports, and photographs.
Prepare progress reports to provide inputs for monitoring actions and decision-making.
Promote spaces for articulation between community and municipal actors to ensure SAN actions align with territorial priorities.
Return clear and timely information to communities about progress and results.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in community work, local development, SAN, or participatory planning (required).
Experience facilitating training processes with participatory methodologies for local leaders and community organizations (required).
Knowledge and experience in the functioning of SINASAN and/or SISCODE (required).
Understanding of rights-based approaches, interculturality, and gender equity (desirable).
Ability to prepare reports and training materials (required).
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in nutrition, social work, social sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to food and nutrition security initiatives.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in community work, local development, food and nutrition security, or participatory planning. This experience should include facilitating training processes with local leaders and community organizations, demonstrating the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and knowledge of the local language is desirable. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively with community members and stakeholders in both languages to ensure inclusivity and understanding.
