Job Overview: The ICT Assistant position is crucial for providing technical support and assistance to the local IOM office in Washington, DC, as well as its sub-offices. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Senior Regional Resources Management Officer and the IT Administrator, focusing on ICT Helpdesk support. This role involves maintaining and supporting ICT systems and services, ensuring efficient operation of databases, and providing training to users on software and applications. The ICT Assistant will also be responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting various ICT security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security measures, ensuring secure data communication, and maintaining user accounts and network resources. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the ICT Assistant include:
Providing ICT Helpdesk support for local users in the Washington, DC office and sub-offices.
Assisting in the configuration, routine maintenance, and daily support of ICT systems and services.
Monitoring and maintaining operational databases, identifying efficiency issues, and ensuring quality assurance.
Maintaining installation and configuration procedures, and completing documentation on reports and user instructions.
Training users on software and application management.
Responding to requests and resolving issues related to systems and applications.
Maintaining secure data communication channels and monitoring SSL VPN remote user sessions.
Deploying and monitoring ICT security software and ensuring compliance with security procedures.
Maintaining user account structures and network storage resources. 1
Liaising with other teams and units, providing regular reports on work accomplished. 1
Performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the ICT Assistant position include:
High School degree with 5 years of relevant work experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related discipline with 3 years of work experience.
Experience with networking (TCP/IP, routing, switching), network services (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, WINS), and operating systems (Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2016/2019).
Familiarity with messaging systems (Outlook 365, Exchange Online, Intune) and experience in a multi-site environment.
Knowledge of various hardware and software, including HP/Compaq, Lenovo, Surface, IBM, Microsoft, Meraki, Cisco, and Apple equipment.
Experience in website development and administration is an advantage.
Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations is preferred.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess either a High School diploma with significant work experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science or Information Management. The educational background should ideally include coursework or training related to ICT systems, networking, and database management, equipping the candidate with the necessary technical skills to perform the job effectively.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree, or 5 years for those with a High School diploma. Experience should include hands-on work with networking technologies, operating systems, and ICT support in a professional setting. Familiarity with international organizations or multi-cultural environments is considered an asset, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate diverse workplace dynamics and challenges.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both oral and written. Knowledge of additional languages such as Spanish or French is desirable, as it enhances communication with a broader range of stakeholders and colleagues within the organization.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a Special Short Term contract with an initial duration of 6 months. It is important to note that this vacancy is open only to internal and separated staff, and candidates must hold US citizenship or permanent residency to be eligible for consideration. The selection process may also be used to fill similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment for a period of 6 months.
