Job Overview:
The West Coast Protection Manager (PM) plays a crucial role in the planning, implementation, and oversight of protection projects in Yemen, specifically in the areas of Aden and Mocha. Reporting to the Area Programme Manager and the Country Protection Manager, the PM is responsible for ensuring that protection programming adheres to DRC's Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) and global humanitarian principles. This role involves managing the protection team, fostering relationships with affected communities and stakeholders, and contributing to the development of DRC's sector strategy in Yemen. The PM will also focus on enhancing the capacity of the protection team to deliver high-quality services and ensure effective coordination of protection activities across various sectors.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The West Coast Protection Manager will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Ensuring that protection programming is conducted in accordance with DRC Protection SoPs and global humanitarian principles.
  • Overseeing the timely and budget-compliant implementation of protection projects, including meeting donor targets and ensuring quality.
  • Producing and updating detailed project work plans to track progress on outputs and activities.
  • Conducting field visits to monitor implementation quality and provide technical advice, as well as developing capacity-building plans for field staff.
  • Maintaining communication with colleagues across various sectors and support offices regarding challenges and opportunities.
  • Preparing high-quality narrative reports for donors and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Managing project budgets and expenditures, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Planning logistics and staff movements for operational areas.
  • Collaborating with the Safety team on contextual developments and incident reporting. 1
  • Supporting the integration of protection interventions with other core sectors and establishing a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) plan.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of four years of protection field experience, ideally in emergency or early recovery contexts, with at least two years in a management role. Experience in humanitarian work, particularly in complex emergencies involving refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), is essential. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing large teams, providing technical guidance, and conducting capacity-building initiatives. Familiarity with case management, psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (PSS), legal programs, and protection monitoring is preferred. Strong communication, negotiation, advocacy, and diplomacy skills are required, along with the ability to understand the human rights situation and political environment of Yemen.

Educational Background:
A university degree relevant to humanitarian work is required, preferably in fields such as law, social work, gender studies, social sciences, or humanitarian aid. Significant proven field experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant protection field experience, with at least two years in a management capacity. Experience in humanitarian settings, particularly with refugee and IDP populations, is crucial. Candidates should have experience managing large protection projects, including budget planning, procurement, and report writing.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The contract length for this position is until December 31, 2026, and it falls within the Management (F2) band. The role reports to the Area Program Manager and is based in the South Area offices in Aden or Mocha, with frequent travel to the field. Salary and conditions will align with the Danish Refugee Council's National Terms of Employment.
