The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Global Environmental Governance Sub-Programme Coordinator. The primary focus of this internship is to assist in the design and development of interactive dashboards using Microsoft Power BI, manage the Subprogramme's SharePoint knowledge repository, analyze Member State reporting data, and create data visualization materials. The intern will also support the development of automated reporting workflows and assist in quality assurance processes for environmental governance indicators. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Designing and developing interactive dashboards using Microsoft Power BI to visualize environmental governance indicators and Member State reporting metrics.
Supporting the management and optimization of the Subprogramme's SharePoint knowledge repository by organizing documents, creating metadata structures, and improving search functionality.
Analyzing Member State reporting data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for enhanced environmental governance support.
Creating data visualization materials and infographics to support policy briefs, technical reports, and presentations.
Supporting the development of automated reporting workflows using Microsoft Teams and Excel to streamline data collection from regional offices and country teams.
Documenting knowledge management processes and developing user guides for internal systems and tools.
Assisting in quality assurance and data validation processes for environmental governance indicators and reporting metrics.
Supporting the team in preparing materials for high-level meetings, including the UN Environment Assembly and MEA Conference of Parties sessions.
Undertaking additional assignments as required by the Subprogramme Coordinator to enhance the intern's learning experience and career development in environmental governance.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (Master's degree or equivalent, or higher) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, International Relations, or a related field. b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) in the above-mentioned fields. c. Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, SharePoint, Teams, and Excel. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter are also essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in a graduate program or final year of a bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or International Relations. A degree in these areas is crucial for understanding the technical and analytical aspects of the role.
Experience: No prior work experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, having skills and knowledge in areas such as proficiency in Microsoft Power BI for creating dashboards and data visualizations, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, experience with SharePoint administration, and familiarity with data analysis and statistical methods are highly desirable. Strong research and analytical skills, along with attention to detail, will also be beneficial for the intern's success in this role.
