Job Overview:
The Senior Registration Assistant plays a crucial role within the Registration team at UNHCR. This position is responsible for supporting all activities related to the registration of asylum seekers and refugees. The incumbent will engage in various functions, including reception, filing, and data management. A significant aspect of the role involves providing counseling and responding to inquiries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR's registration procedures, their rights, and entitlements. The Senior Registration Assistant will work closely with protection staff and partners to ensure timely identification and referral of persons of concern (POC) for necessary protection follow-up. Additionally, the incumbent may assist in compiling and analyzing information related to registration activities within the operation, and may also provide interpretation and translation services when required. This position demands a high level of accountability and adherence to UNHCR's regulatory framework, including its core values of professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Registration Assistant include: assisting in the implementation of registration strategies and methodologies for persons of concern; conducting registration interviews in accordance with established standards and guidance; providing counseling and responding to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding registration procedures and their rights; maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and data related to individual registration cases; identifying persons with specific needs and ensuring timely referral for protection follow-up; collaborating with protection staff and partners in delivering assistance and programming; drafting correspondence and reports related to registration activities; providing statistics and drafting reports related to registration data as requested; acting as an interpreter and translator when needed; referring cases to other units within the office and to implementing partners; drafting and submitting reports and statistics related to registration; supporting the identification and management of risks; and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Senior Registration Assistant position include a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential skills include good computer skills, particularly in data management, and desirable training in the basic principles of international protection. Experience working with UNHCR proGres software is also beneficial. The position requires a strong understanding of data management and program management, as well as the ability to collect and analyze data effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma as a minimum educational requirement. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred. Fields of education that are relevant include social sciences, statistics, mathematics, and information technology. Certifications in these areas are considered essential for the role, particularly those related to data management and analysis.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a High School Diploma, or 1 year of relevant experience for those with a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Relevant experience should include work in humanitarian protection, data management, and registration processes, particularly in a context related to refugees and displaced persons.

Languages:
For this position, knowledge of English is mandatory, along with the UN working language of the duty station, which in this case is Arabic. Proficiency in local languages is also advantageous. The ability to communicate effectively in both English and Arabic is essential for interacting with asylum seekers and refugees, as well as for collaborating with colleagues and partners.
