Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health. Established in 1948, WHO's mission is to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve vulnerable populations. The organization operates in over 150 countries and has a workforce of more than 7,000 employees. The Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPR) Programme within the WHO Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO) focuses on building the capacity of Member States to manage health emergency risks and coordinate international health responses during crises.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is designed to enhance the visibility and professional presentation of WHO AFRO's reports and guidance products. The selected volunteer will be responsible for graphic design and visual communication efforts, specifically focusing on creating high-quality report products that adhere to WHO branding guidelines. This role requires a creative individual who can produce polished designs that are not only visually appealing but also functional and aligned with WHO standards. The volunteer will collaborate closely with communication focal points to ensure that all design work meets the needs of both internal and external audiences, thereby contributing to the overall mission of WHO AFRO in managing health emergencies effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will undertake several key responsibilities under the supervision of the Project Lead. These include producing polished designs and layouts for WHO reports and guidance documents, ensuring alignment with WHO branding guidelines. The volunteer will apply a clean and professional editorial design style, maintaining consistency in typography, headings, tables, and call-outs throughout the documents. The layout of all supplied content must be executed without altering the original structure or logic of the text. The volunteer will deliver an initial laid-out version for review and feedback from WHO, incorporate up to two rounds of revisions based on consolidated comments, and submit final, publication-ready files. The finalized draft content will be provided in an editable format prior to the design work, and while limited new graphics or illustrations may be required, the focus will be on effective layout and presentation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this position should possess strong graphic design skills, with proficiency in design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, or similar tools. A keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of editorial design principles are essential. The ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple revisions is crucial. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate creativity and the ability to produce high-quality visual content that aligns with organizational branding standards.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should ideally have formal education or training in design principles, typography, and layout techniques. Experience in creating reports or similar documents is advantageous.

Experience:
While specific years of experience may not be mandated, candidates should have a demonstrated portfolio showcasing previous graphic design work, particularly in the context of report design or visual communication. Experience working with international organizations or in public health contexts is a plus.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as all design work will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Portuguese, would be considered an asset, given the diverse linguistic landscape of the WHO AFRO region.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and while it may not offer financial compensation, it provides valuable experience in international public health and graphic design. The role is expected to be part-time and remote, allowing for flexibility in working hours. The duration of the assignment is not specified, but it is likely to be project-based, focusing on immediate deliverables.
