The EPP 3.0 integrates data from multiple UNICEF systems and tools, aiming to improve the efficiency and accuracy of preparedness planning and monitoring. Interns will play a crucial role in validating the platform's functionality, ensuring data integrity, and verifying the accuracy of calculations derived from system integrations. This role involves conducting comprehensive functional and data validation checks to ensure that all platform features work as intended and that workflows are seamless and intuitive. The internship provides an opportunity to contribute to UNICEF's mission of strengthening preparedness and enhancing response capabilities during emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks as part of the EPP 3.0 project team, including:
Functional Testing: Conduct systematic functional testing by interacting with all buttons, links, and interactive elements across EPP 3.0 modules to ensure proper functionality. Execute end-to-end test plans covering the full preparedness cycle, including risk analysis, response phase, and preparedness phase. Report any non-functional buttons, broken links, or unexpected behaviors.
Data Validation: Verify that data pulled from integrated systems is displayed accurately and consistently, including finance and budget, human resources, GIS and geospatial analysis, response and preparedness activities, supplies list, and partnership data. Validate the accuracy of automated calculated data, including people in need, people to be reached, program targets, and preparedness score.
Defect Tracking: Identify, document, and track functional defects, data inconsistencies, and workflow gaps using agreed testing and issue-tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, or Excel logs).
Workflow Testing: Simulate real user journeys across different preparedness scenarios to ensure smooth and intuitive transitions between modules. Expected deliverables include comprehensive test reports, defect and issue logs, data validation summaries, and workflow testing feedback.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program or have graduated within the past two years in disciplines such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field. A minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience in software testing, quality assurance, or data validation is required, with internship or academic project experience being acceptable. Familiarity with integrated systems and data workflows is a plus, along with a basic understanding of software testing principles and methodologies. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar tools for data validation is essential, and exposure to issue-tracking tools such as Azure DevOps is desirable. Candidates should possess strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and clear communication skills for reporting issues, as well as the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being currently enrolled in or having recently graduated from a degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of software testing and data validation.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience in software testing, quality assurance, or data validation. This experience can be gained through internships or academic projects, providing candidates with practical knowledge and skills necessary for the role.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional UN languages such as French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, or Chinese is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse work environment.
Additional Notes: Interns must be at least 18 years old and demonstrate good academic performance as evidenced by recent university or institution records. Candidates must not have immediate relatives working in any UNICEF office or in the line of authority to whom the intern will report. Proof of medical insurance covering the internship period is required. The internship can be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis, and candidates are expected to provide their own laptop. Selected interns will receive a monthly stipend unless they are already receiving support from a third party. Candidates are responsible for their own travel and living expenses and must arrange any necessary visa or immigration requirements. It is important to note that there is no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
