Job Overview:
The position of Part-time Consultant for Digital Engagement and Protection at UNICEF focuses on enhancing the Safety & security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security dimension of the Responsible Innovation in Technology for Children (RITEC) framework. The consultant will be involved in synthesizing evidence on online gaming and child safety, updating the RITEC Design Toolbox (RDT), and collaborating with various stakeholders including game design professionals. The role aims to translate research findings into actionable design guidance that supports children's well-being in digital play. The consultant will work from January to May 2026, with the goal of finalizing the updated toolbox by 2027.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Map out key additions to the current RITEC Safety & Security coverage through key informant interviews with game design stakeholders.
  • Utilize evidence synthesis on safety-by-design to create actionable design guidance.
  • Develop additional content and collaborate with a designer to integrate it into an updated RDT with a strengthened Safety & Security dimension.
  • Work closely with UNICEF Child Rights and Business and Child Protection teams, RITEC project partners, and a Community of Practice (CoP) to consolidate feedback and ensure the final production of outputs, coordinating with service providers for editing and layout.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include an advanced university degree in Design, Gaming, Technology, Social Science, Psychology, or a relevant discipline. Candidates must have at least 3 years of work experience in areas such as designing digital products for children, design research in the gaming sector, or Trust and Safety specialization. Proven experience in producing toolkits or guidance for game designers or tech developers is also required. Excellent writing skills for non-technical audiences and the ability to work independently and in a multicultural environment are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Design, Gaming, Technology, Social Science, or Psychology. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of digital engagement and child protection in the gaming industry.

Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required, particularly in designing digital products or services for children, conducting design research in the gaming sector, or specializing in Trust and Safety. Experience in producing guidance or toolkits for game designers or tech developers is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Additional languages, particularly other official UN languages, are considered desirable but not required.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy position is part-time and will involve working remotely. Selected candidates will not be considered staff members under UN regulations and will not receive benefits such as leave entitlements or medical insurance. Consultants are responsible for their tax liabilities and must ensure that their visa and health insurance are valid for the contract duration.
