Job Overview:
The Associate Director, Technical is a pivotal role within the Strengthening Infections Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Activity in Nigeria. This position is responsible for overseeing the quality of technical activity implementation, ensuring that project objectives are met efficiently and effectively. The Associate Director will lead cross-functional teams, manage project schedules and budgets, and coordinate technical activities across various stakeholders, including government agencies and international partners. The role requires a strategic approach to enhance Nigeria's resilience in disease detection and response, focusing on data collection, analysis, and reporting. The Associate Director will also play a crucial role in capacity building and the professional development of team members, ensuring that the project aligns with national health priorities and international best practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Director, Technical will achieve strategic technical goals by leading the development and implementation of STRIDES activities in Nigeria. Key responsibilities include providing technical oversight to ensure compliance with organizational policies, serving as a trusted advisor to the Federal Ministry of Health and other agencies, and managing operational and tactical technical activities. The role involves planning and directing project schedules, monitoring budgets, and ensuring timely completion of project deliverables. The Associate Director will also select, develop, and evaluate personnel, manage team training and process improvement initiatives, and support performance management and professional development of direct reports. Additionally, the Associate Director will coordinate with external donors and clients, develop strategic objectives, and serve as a backup to the Technical Director.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Civil Society, Communication, Economic Development, Health, or a related area. A Project Management (PM) Certification is preferred. The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant technical or project management experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership role. Experience working in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is essential, along with a strong understanding of infectious disease prevention and response.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s Degree or its equivalent in relevant fields such as Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Health, Nutrition, or related disciplines. A Project Management Certification is highly desirable, indicating a formal understanding of project management principles and practices.

Experience:
The Associate Director, Technical should have at least 10 years of relevant experience in technical or project management roles, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity. This experience should ideally be within the context of health-related projects, particularly in infectious disease detection and response, and should include work in non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if relevant to the local context or project stakeholders.

This position is based in Abuja, Nigeria, and may require travel exceeding 25% of the time. The role is full-time and involves working in a typical office environment.
