Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the UN-Habitat Egypt Programme, specifically in Cairo. The intern will work under the guidance of the Country Programme Manager and will be engaged in a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the design and formulation of the Country Strategy and its technical cooperation activities. This includes urban design and development components, project identification, resource mapping, and reporting. The intern will also assist in data collection and organization for urban projects, coordinate with stakeholders, participate in technical working groups, and support monitoring and reporting on urban initiatives. The role requires a proactive approach to communication and graphic design support for UN-Habitat Egypt's initiatives, as well as participation in meetings and workshops.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Supporting the design and formulation of the Country Strategy and technical cooperation activities related to urban design and development.
Assisting in the identification and development of projects based on demand.
Mapping resources and partnerships relevant to urban development.
Collecting and organizing data for urban design and development projects, including spatial data and indicators.
Coordinating with stakeholders on urban development and city planning activities.
Participating in UN technical working groups, seminars, and meetings, and preparing briefs for the office.
Monitoring and reporting on urban development initiatives, maintaining project files, drafting correspondence, and tracking progress.
Compiling best practices and lessons learned from UN-Habitat's interventions.
Assisting in the organization and reporting of meetings, workshops, and seminars. 1
Supporting communication efforts for UN-Habitat Egypt initiatives and providing graphic design support for communication materials.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, applicants should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
Educational Background: The preferred educational background for this internship includes being currently enrolled in a graduate degree program or having graduated from a recognized institution with a Bachelor's degree in fields such as urban planning, urban design, architecture, graphic design, geography, environmental studies, or sustainable development. Applicants must be students in their final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs.
Experience: While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, relevant coursework, projects, or internships that align with the responsibilities of this internship are desirable. Experience in organizing, supporting, or participating in events, workshops, or stakeholder consultations related to urban planning, urban design, city development, or sustainable urban development is particularly beneficial. Strong research, data collection, and reporting skills related to urban development topics are also desirable.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is required for this internship position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language is considered desirable, which may enhance communication and collaboration within the UN system.
