Job Overview:
The Evaluation Consultant will play a crucial role in the Independent Evaluation Service (IES) of UN Women, contributing to the conduct of evaluations and other corporate tasks. This position requires collaboration with the IES team, particularly during New York working hours, and involves engaging in various evaluation activities, including synthesis, rapid assessments, and knowledge management. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that evaluations meet the United Nations Evaluation Group (UNEG) professional standards and will contribute to the overall implementation of the corporate evaluation plan. The role emphasizes the importance of accountability and learning in achieving gender equality and women's empowerment through operational and normative work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Evaluation Consultant will conduct impartial and independent evaluations and syntheses that align with UNEG professional standards. Key responsibilities include contributing to ongoing evaluations led by IES, ensuring high professional standards are applied, and utilizing both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis tools. The consultant will prepare reports and briefing materials for stakeholders, organize and participate in meetings and workshops, and provide technical support for knowledge management and evaluation use. Additionally, the consultant will develop knowledge products, conduct surveys, and share evaluative information within internal and external communities of practice. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in evaluation, social science, or a relevant field directly related to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in evaluation, preferably within normative, development, or humanitarian contexts, and proven experience in leading or conducting evaluations. Familiarity with gender equality analytical work and programming, as well as experience in international organizations, is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes a Master’s degree in evaluation, social science, or any relevant field that directly relates to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. In cases where candidates hold a first-level university degree, they must also have two additional years of qualifying experience to be considered for the role.

Experience:
The Evaluation Consultant should have at least 5 years of professional experience in evaluation, ideally in contexts related to normative, development, or humanitarian work. Candidates should demonstrate hands-on experience in leading or conducting evaluations and possess knowledge of gender equality issues and current development challenges. Experience in evaluation use and knowledge management, as well as familiarity with UN Women’s mandate and activities, is considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable and would be considered an advantage for candidates.

Additional Notes:
The consultant will work on a full-time basis, either remotely or on-site, and will receive a monthly rate upon satisfactory completion of tasks and deliverables.
