Job Overview: The Senior Criminal Justice and Anti-Corruption Adviser will play a pivotal role in enhancing the capabilities of national agencies and institutions in the areas of criminal justice and anti-corruption. This position requires a deep understanding of the legal frameworks and challenges related to corruption, as well as the ability to provide strategic recommendations for legislative and policy improvements. The adviser will work closely with national counterparts to identify capacity development needs and propose initiatives to address these challenges effectively. The role also involves organizing and facilitating training sessions, workshops, and conferences aimed at strengthening national capacities to combat corruption and recover proceeds of crime. The adviser will coordinate with international partners to ensure a cohesive approach to anti-corruption efforts and will be responsible for mentoring local trainers and facilitating practical exercises.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for providing expert recommendations to national agencies on legislation, strategy, and policy development in criminal justice and anti-corruption. Key responsibilities include: assisting national counterparts in identifying capacity development needs, advising on anti-corruption strategies, organizing and facilitating events to improve national capacities, coordinating with international partners to prevent duplication of efforts, delivering training and mentoring to national trainers, and assisting in the implementation of related projects. The adviser will also coordinate extra-budgetary project activities and perform other related tasks as assigned by the Senior Criminal Justice and Anti-Corruption Adviser.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in law or a related field, along with a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience. Significant work experience in criminal justice or law enforcement is essential, particularly in anti-corruption contexts. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as a thorough understanding of international legal standards and procedures. Proven experience in project management and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are also required.
Educational Background: A first-level university degree in law or a related field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of criminal law, courtroom proceedings, and international legal standards, which are essential for effectively advising national counterparts in their anti-corruption efforts.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience, particularly in roles related to criminal justice, law enforcement, or anti-corruption. Experience working within or providing advisory services to anti-corruption bodies, as well as familiarity with the dynamics and challenges of corruption in law enforcement and the judiciary, is highly desirable. Previous work in international organizations or field missions focused on governance and public administration reform will be advantageous.
Languages: Professional fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of the local language or the most commonly spoken lingua franca in the mission area is considered a desirable asset, as it can enhance communication and collaboration with local counterparts.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a Senior Professional role under an international secondment contract.
