Job Overview:
The internship at the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Lima is designed to provide practical experience in the field of communications and public information. The intern will work under the supervision of the National Information Officer and will be expected to contribute to various communication initiatives aimed at promoting the UN's work. This role involves preparing graphic materials for social media, providing office support, drafting communication documents, and assisting in media outreach efforts. The internship is unpaid and requires full-time commitment, with the possibility of part-time arrangements based on the needs of UNIC Lima. The intern will gain valuable insights into the operations of the UN and the importance of effective communication in fostering public understanding of international issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: preparing graphic materials for social media campaigns; providing general office support and responding to complex information requests; drafting media and communication documents; assisting in the production and delivery of information products and services; conducting media outreach by drafting and distributing press releases; updating internal databases and the UN website; researching and compiling information for communication products; producing digital imaging and writing captions for UN photos; assisting in video and audio-visual projects; developing social media products; monitoring news and reactions relevant to UN priorities; and updating directories and distribution lists. The intern may also be assigned additional duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level). Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. No prior work experience is required, but relevant training or coursework is beneficial.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or the final year of an undergraduate program. This educational background should ideally be in fields related to communications, international relations, public policy, or other relevant disciplines that align with the UN's mission and activities.

Experience:
No prior work experience is required for this internship. However, any relevant training, education, or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship will be considered beneficial. The focus is on providing an opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken, read, and written Spanish is required for the internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Information Centre. Knowledge of English is desirable but not mandatory. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance the intern's ability to perform their duties and engage with diverse audiences.

The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses.
