Job Overview: The People & Culture Officer for STRIDES Jordan is responsible for delivering professional-level People and Culture (P&C) services within the Jordan project/country office. This role is crucial for enhancing global health priorities in the country, particularly in strengthening laboratory and surveillance systems to effectively respond to emerging infectious diseases and public health threats. The officer will support both staff and managers in various areas such as recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, and compliance with labor laws. The position requires close collaboration with managers to ensure consistent application of policies and to contribute to process improvements that enhance service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities: The People & Culture Officer will manage the entire recruitment process, from requisition approval to onboarding of new employees. They will provide guidance to employees and supervisors regarding policy interpretation and application. The officer will maintain benefits administration and oversee staff compensation, including payroll management. They will coordinate the performance management processes within the country office, which includes setting goals and conducting performance reviews. Additionally, the officer will organize professional development and learning activities for staff, ensuring compliance with local labor laws and FHI 360 policies. They will also be responsible for preparing and maintaining personnel files, ensuring that all information is accurate and up-to-date. The officer will maintain the integrity of HRIS data and generate standard HR reports as needed. Other related duties may be assigned as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of local employment laws and HR best practices. They should have the ability to provide policy guidance and effectively resolve employee concerns. Proficiency with HRIS systems and reporting tools is essential. Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills are also required to navigate complex employee relations issues. The officer should be capable of resolving moderately complex P&C issues with limited supervision and be proactive in recommending process improvements to enhance service delivery.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding HR principles and practices.
Experience: Candidates should have 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible HR experience, demonstrating a solid understanding of HR functions and the ability to manage various HR processes effectively. Experience working in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred, as it provides valuable insights into the unique challenges and dynamics of the sector.
Languages: Proficiency in the English language (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in Arabic is required to effectively communicate with staff and stakeholders in Jordan. Knowledge of other languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
