Established in April 2012, the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has a membership of over 150 Governments and aims to respond to the needs of governments and other stakeholders to strengthen the science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services. The IPBES secretariat is located at the Bonn duty station, where this position is based.

Job Overview:
The Consultant for Social Media and Digital Communications will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility and engagement of IPBES through its social media channels. This position involves producing, translating, and adapting creative content for social and online media in both French and English. The consultant will further develop and implement strategies aimed at growing the IPBES social media follower base and increasing engagement rates with posts. The role requires a proactive approach to managing social media content, ensuring that it aligns with the IPBES Social Media Strategy, and effectively targets French-speaking audiences. The consultant will also monitor social media performance and provide regular reports on user engagement and behavior, contributing to the overall communication goals of IPBES.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: producing, translating, and adapting creative content for social media in French and English; developing and implementing strategies for growth and engagement across IPBES social media channels; writing and managing translations of high-quality multilingual digital content; implementing the IPBES Social Media Strategy by researching, drafting, translating, adapting, and scheduling posts; planning and executing thematic mini-campaigns; monitoring user behavior on social media; providing regular performance reports; collaborating with French social media channels of partners; increasing the follower base and engagement rates; and preparing responses to messages from followers in both languages.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, media, language, environmental studies, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">environmental law, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience will be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of 2 years of experience in communications roles, particularly in both English and French, is required. Candidates should demonstrate experience in operational social media roles in both languages, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have the ability to write clear and concise drafts in both English and French. Knowledge of social media platforms, trends, and functions is essential, along with good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as communication, journalism, media, environmental studies, or environmental law. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication in the context of environmental issues and social media engagement.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in communications, particularly in roles that involve both English and French. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in operational social media roles, showcasing their ability to manage and create engaging content across various platforms. Experience in an international organization is also desirable, as it provides insight into the global context of environmental communications.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written English and French is mandatory for this position. This bilingual requirement is essential for effectively communicating with diverse audiences and managing content across IPBES's social media channels.
