Job Overview:
The Resident Coordinator (RC) serves as the highest-ranking representative of the United Nations development system (UNDS) in Egypt, responsible for leading the UN country team and ensuring accountability for the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. The RC plays a crucial role in fostering partnerships with government, civil society, and other stakeholders to address national needs and advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This position requires a deep understanding of the UN's mission and the ability to navigate complex political landscapes to promote sustainable development and peace.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Resident Coordinator is tasked with a wide range of responsibilities, including representing the UN at high-level state functions, leading the UN country team in developing and monitoring the UN Cooperation Framework, coordinating system-wide support to the government, and advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The RC must engage with various stakeholders, including civil society and the private sector, to foster strategic partnerships and promote the UN's collective support for the 2030 Agenda. Additionally, the RC is responsible for overseeing country financing instruments, ensuring security for UN personnel, and managing the Resident Coordinator's Office. The role also involves facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration among UN entities and promoting gender equality and human rights.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in development studies, international relations, political science, economics, social sciences, human rights, law, or closely related fields. A first-level university degree with relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Over 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level is required, including five years in development, human rights, or humanitarian work at the country level. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator or in senior-level inter-agency coordination is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent judgment, strong diplomatic skills, and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in relevant fields is required. Candidates with a first-level university degree and significant relevant experience may also be considered. The educational background should align with the UN's focus on sustainable development, human rights, and international relations.

Experience:
Candidates must have over 15 years of substantive experience in leadership roles at the international level, including five years of cumulative experience in development, human rights, rule of law, peace-building, or humanitarian work at the country level outside of their own country. Previous experience as a Resident Coordinator is required, along with senior-level inter-agency coordination experience. Experience in managing multi-sectoral humanitarian programs and operations is desirable, as is experience in security decision-making in complex environments.

Languages:
English is required at UN Level III for reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Arabic is desirable at the same level. The UN Secretariat operates primarily in English and French, making proficiency in these languages essential for effective communication and collaboration within the organization.

The start date for this position is July 2026, with a potential assignment duration of five years, subject to the hardship classification of the duty station.
