Job Overview: The Principal Banker is a pivotal role within the EBRD, responsible for overseeing all aspects of project development and implementation. This includes project origination, negotiation, structuring, execution, and monitoring of various investment instruments offered by the Bank. The Principal Banker will serve as a senior member of a project team or as an operation leader, particularly on less complex transactions compared to an Associate Director or Senior Banker. The role requires effective leadership of project teams, supervision of junior banking staff, and contributions to their coaching and mentoring. Additionally, the Principal Banker will engage in business development, client management, and policy dialogue, ensuring that projects align with the Bank's objectives and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Principal Banker will be responsible for structuring and executing transactions, leading project teams, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with the Bank's standards. Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the structuring, negotiation, and execution of transactions, collaborating with partner financial institutions, clients, and internal units.
- Managing project teams and overseeing the due diligence process to ensure quality and adherence to the Bank's policies.
- Monitoring project portfolios, providing guidance to junior team members, and maintaining client relationships.
- Contributing to policy dialogue initiatives and assisting in securing grants and technical cooperation funds.
- Supporting marketing and business development efforts to enhance deal flow and cross-selling opportunities.
- Recruiting, training, and mentoring junior bankers, ensuring their professional development and effective workload distribution.
- Upholding the Bank's values and behavioral competencies, fostering a high standard of integrity and ethical conduct within the team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree, with a Master's degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative and numerical skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information and design financial models. Familiarity with FAST financial modeling principles is advantageous. Candidates should have credit analysis and debt structuring skills, with a solid understanding of local and international accounting principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial analysis tools is required, along with excellent stakeholder management, coaching, and leadership skills. Strong written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory, and a good command of the Ukrainian language is essential.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. A Master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, as it demonstrates advanced knowledge and expertise in financial analysis and project management. Professional certifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are highly regarded and indicate a commitment to professional development and excellence in the field.
Experience: Candidates should have significant relevant experience in the financial industry, ideally from an investment or commercial bank, private equity firm, asset management firm, or auditing/financial consulting firm that operates to international standards. Practical experience in leading complex transactions throughout the project life cycle is crucial. Familiarity with the Ukrainian market, including an understanding of regional dynamics and trends, is desirable and will enhance the candidate's ability to navigate the local economic landscape effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the Bank. A good command of the Ukrainian language is also essential for effective interaction with local stakeholders and clients. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions in which the EBRD operates.
Additional Notes: This position is a fixed-term contract lasting three years, with the possibility of temporary relocation to Warsaw, Poland. The EBRD may allow eligible candidates to work from Ukraine if relocation is not feasible due to personal reasons.
