Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) is designed for motivated individuals who are eager to support the strategic planning and monitoring efforts of the UN. Interns will engage with the Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit (SPMU), contributing to critical analyses, priority-setting, and resource alignment that are essential for the Secretary-General's initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals and gain insights into the operations of the UN System. Interns will be involved in various workstreams, allowing them to explore different aspects of UN operations while making meaningful contributions to ongoing projects. The position is flexible, allowing for in-person, remote, or hybrid work arrangements, and can be pursued on a part-time or full-time basis for a duration of three to six months. Candidates are encouraged to indicate their availability and preferred workstream in their applications, ensuring a tailored fit for both the intern and the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be assigned to at least one of the four key workstreams within the SPMU, each with specific responsibilities: 1) In the Strategic Coordination and Decision-Making workstream, interns will assist in preparing for senior-level management meetings, contribute to the development of analytical materials, and support the tracking of decisions and their implementation. 2) For the UN 2.0 Capabilities workstream, interns will engage in the planning and execution of change management programs, assist in community management, and help develop digital solutions. 3) In the Risk, Fragility, and Crisis Management workstream, interns will monitor global trends, contribute to the Secretary-General’s Global Risk Report, and assist in planning for UN integration in fragile settings. 4) In the Management Support workstream, interns will support analytics related to UN priorities and resources, assist in resource mobilization efforts, and help organize meetings and events. Overall, interns will play a vital role in supporting the EOSG's mission and will have the opportunity to develop their skills in a dynamic and impactful environment.

Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: 1) They must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (such as a Master's degree or higher) or 2) They must be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level). Additionally, candidates should possess strong computer literacy, a keen interest in the UN's work, and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. While prior internship experience is preferred, it is not a formal requirement. Desired qualifications vary by workstream, including organizational skills, analytical thinking, and proficiency in data analysis.

Educational Background:
Candidates pursuing studies in relevant fields are encouraged to apply. For the Strategic Coordination and Decision-Making workstream, fields such as Economics, Political Economy, Public Administration, International Relations, and Political Science are relevant. For the UN 2.0 Capabilities workstream, candidates with backgrounds in Business, Management, Technology, Data Science, and Behavioral Science are preferred. The Risk, Fragility, and Crisis Management workstream seeks candidates with knowledge in Risk Management, International Development, and Security Studies. Lastly, the Management Support workstream values candidates with expertise in Management Information Systems, Business Analytics, and Finance.

Experience:
While prior internships or a year or two of full-time work experience are common among applicants, they are not strictly required for this internship. The UN values the educational background and training of candidates, which should ideally align with the responsibilities of the internship. Interns are expected to bring their academic knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the work of the EOSG.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN.
