Job Overview: The Recruiter position at Human Rights Watch is a critical role within the People and Culture Division, focusing on leading global recruitment processes. This fixed-term, full-time position is designed for a duration of six months, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs and budget considerations. The Recruiter will be responsible for managing the recruitment lifecycle for assigned business units, which includes crafting job descriptions, coordinating recruitment timelines, and liaising with hiring teams to ensure a smooth hiring process. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and attracting diverse candidate pools, implementing strategies to mitigate unconscious bias, and ensuring a positive candidate experience throughout the recruitment process. The Recruiter will also provide training and guidance to staff on recruitment processes and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization's hiring strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Recruiter will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Leading recruitment processes for assigned business units by crafting job descriptions and setting timelines with hiring teams.
Posting job vacancies on Greenhouse and external job boards, reviewing applications, and scheduling interviews.
Preparing job offers and guiding hiring managers through the recruitment process.
Implementing strategies to ensure diverse candidate pools and a positive candidate experience.
Training staff on recruitment processes and contributing to the creation of virtual training materials.
Tracking recruitment progress and providing updates to organizational leadership.
Ensuring compliance with organizational policies and protocols.
Performing additional responsibilities as required to support the People and Culture Division.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience in human resources or a related field. A minimum of five years of relevant experience, particularly in recruiting within non-profit settings, is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to execute projects with minimal guidance. Solid judgment, discretion, and critical thinking skills are essential, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and think proactively. Proficiency in English is required, and knowledge of another language is desirable. Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems, particularly Greenhouse, is a plus, along with strong computer skills including proficiency in Windows and MS Office applications.
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is required for this position. Equivalent working experience in a relevant area may also be considered in lieu of a formal degree. Candidates should have a solid understanding of human resources principles and practices, particularly as they relate to recruitment and talent acquisition.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in recruitment, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked in non-profit organizations. Experience in managing the full recruitment lifecycle, from job posting to candidate selection, is essential. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully attracting and hiring diverse talent and implementing effective recruitment strategies.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Proficiency in an additional language is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's application, particularly in a diverse and international organization like HRW.
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term, full-time position for six months, with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs and budget. The Recruiter will be based within commuting distance of HRW’s offices in New York or Washington DC. The salary range for this position is USD 80,000 – 88,000, and HRW offers comprehensive compensation and benefits. Applicants must possess valid US work authorization.
