Job Overview:
The Policy Advisor on Macro-Economic Policy and Sustainable Development plays a crucial role in integrating gender equality and women's empowerment into global development agendas. This position involves supporting UN Women’s engagement with intergovernmental processes, focusing on sustainable development, macroeconomic policy, financing for development, and poverty eradication. The advisor is responsible for developing and implementing policies within the 2030 Agenda framework, providing technical and policy advice at both country and regional levels. This includes strategy development, thematic reviews, and preparing documentation for UN normative processes. The advisor will also engage in policy advocacy, ensuring that gender considerations are central to discussions on macroeconomic policies and sustainable development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of corporate policies and strategies in the thematic area of macroeconomic policy and sustainable development, including creating tools and guidelines for UN Women offices and partners.
  • Provide policy advisory services to regional and country offices, guiding the implementation of strategies related to the 2030 Agenda.
  • Conduct analyses and prepare reports to support UN Women’s engagement with intergovernmental bodies, ensuring that gender equality is prioritized in policy discussions.
  • Represent UN Women at international and intergovernmental meetings, contributing substantive expertise and fostering partnerships.
  • Develop and manage projects related to gender equality policies and programs, ensuring alignment with global standards.
  • Facilitate knowledge generation and capacity building within UN Women and among partners, promoting best practices and innovative approaches to gender equality.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in development-related disciplines, gender issues, economics, public policy, law, or social sciences. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A program or project certification in relevant areas is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate substantive knowledge and experience in intergovernmental processes, policy analysis, and gender equality.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in relevant fields such as development, gender studies, economics, public policy, or social sciences is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted with additional qualifying experience. Certification in project management or related areas is a plus.

Experience:
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible professional experience in development, with a focus on policy analysis, gender equality, and social development. At least seven years of this experience should be directly related to the thematic area of macroeconomic policy and sustainable development. Familiarity with UN intergovernmental processes and prior experience in international organizations is highly desirable.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and oral English is mandatory. Knowledge of another UN working language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage in diverse international contexts.
