The program operates in approximately 130 countries each year and has a presence on the ground in over 80 countries, making it a significant player in the global volunteer landscape. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Job Overview:
The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is enhancing its strategic communications to increase the visibility and impact of UN initiatives throughout the region. To support this goal, the office is looking for an Online Volunteer (OV) who will assist in developing and refining editorial content that showcases the work of UN entities, partners, and volunteers in Latin America and the Caribbean. The OV will collaborate closely with the ROLAC Communications Specialist and the regional communications team to create, edit, and adapt content for various digital platforms, including the UNV website and social media channels. This role involves drafting articles, success stories, and human-interest pieces that embody the values of volunteerism and highlight the contributions of UN Volunteers to sustainable development. The OV's work will be particularly important for ongoing initiatives such as International Volunteer Day (IVD), International Volunteer Youth (IVY), and Volunteers for Events Initiatives, where editorial content is crucial for demonstrating volunteer engagement and the transformative impact of their efforts. This assignment provides a unique opportunity to gain experience in UN communications, contribute to meaningful storytelling, and work with a dynamic regional team dedicated to promoting volunteerism as a powerful catalyst for change.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for drafting, editing, and proofreading editorial content for digital platforms. This includes writing articles, success stories, and social media posts that highlight the impact of UN Volunteers and key regional initiatives. The content must align with UNV’s strategic messaging and adhere to its editorial standards. The OV will also be involved in researching relevant topics, collaborating with team members to gather information, and ensuring that all content is engaging and informative. Additionally, the OV may assist in developing content related to thematic areas such as gender equality and youth empowerment, ensuring that these themes are effectively communicated in the editorial pieces.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to produce high-quality content. Familiarity with digital communication platforms and social media is essential. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate a commitment to the values of volunteerism and sustainable development. Experience in communications, journalism, or a related field is preferred, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Knowledge of UN initiatives and the ability to convey complex information in an accessible manner will be advantageous.

Educational Background:
A background in communications, journalism, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of digital media and content creation, as well as the ability to engage with diverse audiences through effective storytelling.

Experience:
While specific years of experience may not be required, candidates should demonstrate relevant experience in writing, editing, or communications, particularly in a volunteer or non-profit context. Experience working with international organizations or in multicultural environments will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the role will primarily involve creating content in Spanish. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary to communicate with international teams and stakeholders. Additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and as such, it may not offer financial compensation. However, it provides valuable experience and networking opportunities within the UN system. The role is part-time and flexible, allowing volunteers to contribute according to their availability. The position is open to individuals from various backgrounds, and international applicants are welcome to apply.
