Job Overview: The Development Coordination Officer, Partnerships, is responsible for providing strategic support for the planning and coordination of partnerships aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the UN Country Team (UNCT). This role involves guiding the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy, facilitating resource mobilization, and promoting collaboration among various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society, and the private sector. The officer will work closely with the Resident Coordinator and other UNCT members to identify opportunities for partnerships, assess risks, and develop tailored strategies to enhance the effectiveness of development initiatives. The position requires a strong understanding of sustainable development principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex country settings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide substantive support for strategic planning and coordination of UNCT partnerships for SDG achievement, including guidance on the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy.
Coordinate UNCT working groups to monitor and assess partnership strategies, ensuring alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
Liaise with UN entities and external stakeholders to define value propositions for local partnerships and advise on risks and opportunities.
Develop and implement resource mobilization strategies, monitor funding streams, and facilitate joint programming processes.
Prepare briefing papers and discussion points on partnership issues, contributing to advocacy and communication efforts with partners.
Ensure effective engagement with private sector and civil society to enhance financing for development initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in strategic support for partnerships, project/programme management, resource mobilization, or development finance. Experience in data analytics and working in complex country settings is desirable. Previous experience with multi-stakeholder coordination in development cooperation or similar areas is also preferred. Familiarity with the UN system and international organizations is an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a commitment to sustainable development principles.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, education, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in providing strategic support to partnerships, project/programme management, resource mobilization, or development finance. Candidates with two or more years of experience in data analytics or related fields, as well as those with experience in complex country settings, will be preferred. Previous working experience with multi-stakeholder coordination in development cooperation is also desirable, along with experience in the United Nations or similar international organizations/NGOs.
Languages: English is the mandatory working language for this position, with a required proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations, and proficiency in French is considered an asset, although not mandatory for this position.
