Job Overview:
The Legal Consultant position is crucial for the Direct Assistance (DA) team at IOM, which focuses on providing essential services to vulnerable migrants and victims of trafficking in Egypt. The consultant will be responsible for delivering legal awareness sessions and offering legal services to migrants and refugees facing various challenges, including human rights abuses and exploitation. The role requires a strong commitment to ethical standards and respect for cultural differences, as the consultant will work closely with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The consultant will also be expected to provide comprehensive legal counseling, assist in legal documentation, and represent clients in legal proceedings, ensuring that their rights are upheld and that they receive the necessary support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties will include providing comprehensive legal counseling and representation to migrants on various legal matters, assisting in the preparation of legal documents and submissions, and representing clients in legal proceedings such as court appearances and tribunal hearings. The consultant will also be responsible for raising awareness within migrant communities about their legal rights and obligations through legal awareness sessions and community engagements. Additionally, the consultant will attend follow-up meetings, provide timely feedback on assigned cases, coordinate legal services with the IOM Legal Focal Point, and draft legal information guides. The consultant will facilitate the issuance of legal documentation, including birth certificates, residency permits, and marriage contracts, and will perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a degree in Law from a recognized institution and have a minimum of 5 years of experience in providing legal assistance, preferably with migrants or in human rights law. The ideal candidate will have experience in representing clients in legal proceedings and a solid understanding of national and international laws related to migration and human rights. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in legal research and writing are essential. The ability to work under pressure, manage multiple cases simultaneously, and collaborate effectively with diverse groups is also required.

Educational Background:
A degree in Law from a recognized institution is mandatory for this position. The educational background should include a strong foundation in legal principles, particularly those related to migration and human rights, as well as practical experience in legal settings.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in providing legal assistance, particularly in contexts involving migrants or human rights law. Candidates should have a proven track record of representing clients in legal proceedings and a thorough understanding of the legal landscape surrounding migration issues.

Languages:
Proficiency in Arabic and English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of IOM's official languages, which include French and Spanish, is considered an asset and will be evaluated during the selection process, potentially through written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy position may involve travel, and candidates should be aware that any offer made is subject to funding confirmation. The appointment will require certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary government authorizations. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under its Compensation Plan, but consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational issues. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that contradicts the organization's objectives, including discrimination and harassment.
