Job Overview: The Partnerships Officer position is situated within the United Nations Resident Coordination Office (RCO) in Georgetown, Guyana. The role is pivotal in providing substantive support for strategic planning and coordination of UN Country Team (UNCT) partnerships with civil society, the private sector, and other stakeholders to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The incumbent will assist in the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy, ensuring alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. This includes facilitating effective partnerships, conducting liaison with UN entities, and providing support to the Resident Coordinator and UNCT in identifying risks and opportunities related to partnerships. The role also involves participating in joint resource mobilization initiatives and supporting the management of pooled funds for the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, thereby contributing to the overall financing for development efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnerships Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Assisting with the provision of substantive support for strategic planning and coordination of UNCT strategic partnerships, providing advice on the development and implementation of the UN Partnership Strategy, and supporting working groups for effective implementation and monitoring.
Conducting liaison and coordination with UN entities to define value propositions for local partnerships, serving as a point of contact for external stakeholders seeking guidance on partnering with the UNCT.
Providing substantive support in identifying risks and opportunities related to partnerships, conducting due diligence processes, and developing locally tailored partnerships.
Participating in joint partnership and resource mobilization initiatives, supporting the development of resource mobilization strategies, and analyzing existing partnerships for funding opportunities.
Working closely with finance experts to promote partnerships that support financing for the SDGs, preparing briefing papers, and contributing to advocacy and communications with partners.
Contributing to knowledge management and capacity development related to partnerships and resource mobilization, promoting collaboration and sharing best practices, and maintaining a knowledge repository of potential donors.
Collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making and reporting.
Required Qualifications: The position requires an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, education, or a related area. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics, or data science is considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of sustainable development theories and concepts, as well as the ability to conduct independent research and analysis.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as business or public administration, sustainable development, social sciences, or education. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. Additional qualifications in data analytics or related fields are advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management within the context of development cooperation is required. Candidates should have experience in preparing project proposals, developing and implementing partnership and resource mobilization strategies, and supporting financing for development. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable, as is proven experience in knowledge management activities related to partnerships and resource mobilization.
Languages: English is the required working language for this position. French is also a working language of the United Nations Secretariat, but proficiency in French is not mandatory for this role. Candidates should refer to the UN Language Framework for details on language proficiency levels.
