Job Overview: The National ProjectCoordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation of the GEF funded Circular Solutions to Plastic Pollution Integrated Program. This program aims to tackle the root causes of plastic pollution by promoting sustainable practices in the food and beverage sector. The Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the project’s activities, ensuring alignment with national strategies, and facilitating collaboration among various stakeholders. This position requires a strong understanding of public policy, technical aspects related to plastics, and finance mobilization. The Coordinator will also ensure that the project contributes to the broader goals of the Global Plastic Reboot initiative, focusing on innovative solutions to reduce plastic waste and promote a circular economy.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the Circular Solutions to Plastics Morocco project. Key responsibilities include providing technical guidance and oversight to consultants and partners, ensuring high-quality outputs, and integrating gender and environmental safeguards into project activities. The Coordinator will also manage project planning, monitoring, and reporting, ensuring that all deliverables meet the required standards. They will facilitate partnerships with national and local stakeholders, promote the project’s objectives, and align activities with other donor-funded initiatives. Additionally, the Coordinator will contribute to the development of work plans, track progress against indicators, and prepare substantive inputs for project reports and evaluations. They will also lead studies and consultancies, ensuring that gender equality and social inclusion are prioritized in all project activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong knowledge of Morocco’s environmental and industrial context, particularly regarding public policies related to plastics and sustainable development. They should have demonstrated diplomatic and negotiation skills, as well as proven technical expertise in waste management, climate change, and circular economy practices. Strong leadership and partnership-building skills are essential, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proficiency in IT and office software is also required. Familiarity with gender mainstreaming approaches and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable, as is experience in managing donor-funded projects, particularly with UN agencies or international organizations.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as environmental management, sustainable development, chemical engineering, or circular economy. A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in these fields, combined with additional qualifying experience, may also be considered. A PhD in relevant fields is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for this role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in relevant fields with a master’s degree, or 7 years with a bachelor’s degree. Experience should include work in plastics, chemical safety, sustainable industry, or circular economy. Proven experience in providing technical leadership for donor-funded projects, particularly in the context of public policy or finance mobilization, is highly valued. Familiarity with the Moroccan context and experience working with government, private sector, and civil society partners are also important.
Languages: Fluency in French and Arabic is required, along with proficiency in English. These language skills are essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for the successful implementation of the project.
Additional Notes: The position is a full-time role with a contract duration of 5 years, subject to annual renewal based on performance. The first six months will serve as a probation period. The Coordinator will be based in the Department of Sustainable Development and will be expected to travel nationally and internationally as required for project execution.
