Job Overview: The Finance Associate plays a crucial role in the UN Women Syria Programme, responsible for executing a wide range of financial services and administrative processes. This position ensures the timely, efficient, and transparent use of financial resources in accordance with organizational financial rules and regulations. The Finance Associate will work closely with the Operations Team and other stakeholders to address complex finance-related issues and ensure effective information delivery. Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Associate's duties include implementing financial strategies and ensuring compliance with UN Women rules and regulations. Responsibilities encompass reviewing and verifying financial transactions, monitoring financial exceptions, and providing assistance in planning financial resources. The role also involves preparing and administering budgets, tracking expenditures, and ensuring the proper functioning of financial management systems. The Finance Associate will prepare financial reports, assist in audits, and provide administrative support for resource mobilization. Additionally, the incumbent will conduct training and knowledge-sharing activities to build capacity within the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of financial rules and regulations, accounting principles, and IT tools. The role requires excellent knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, as well as the ability to administer financial processes and transactions. A client-oriented approach and the ability to engage stakeholders effectively are essential. The Finance Associate should demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity in all interactions.
Educational Background: A minimum of secondary education is required, with specialized national or international certification in accounting and finance considered an asset. A Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting is desirable. Successful completion of the UN Women Accounting and Finance Test is mandatory as part of the selection process.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, with a strong background in using computers and office software packages. Experience with web-based management systems and modern ERP systems, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable. The role requires a proven track record in financial management and the ability to handle complex financial issues effectively.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Arabic is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: The position does not currently involve supervisory responsibilities, but this may change with future program expansion. The role is full-time and based in Damascus, Syria.
