Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City is part of a global network of United Nations information centres. Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located at the United Nations Information Centre in Mexico City (UNIC Mexico City), which is part of the Information Centres Service (ICS) within the Campaigns and Country Operations Division (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The intern will work under the direct supervision of the UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO), reporting to the NIO of UNIC Mexico. This is an unpaid internship, requiring full-time commitment of 35 hours per week for a duration of 6 months. The intern will support various communications activities, including research, drafting, and production of communications products, particularly audiovisual materials. The role involves assisting in outreach efforts to diverse audiences through both traditional and digital communication channels, supporting strategic communication initiatives of the United Nations in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean, and coordinating communication activities among UN System agencies in Mexico. The intern will also assist in producing multimedia stories and digital content for web and social media, draft and edit written content in both Spanish and English, and engage with civil society, academia, and NGOs in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Supporting the communications activities of UNIC Mexico, particularly in research, drafting, and production of communications products, especially audiovisual materials.
  • Assisting in outreach efforts to various publics through traditional and new digital communication methods.
  • Supporting the strategic communication of the United Nations in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
  • Assisting in the coordination of communication activities among UN System agencies in Mexico through the Communication Group.
  • Producing multimedia stories and digital assets for web and social media accounts.
  • Drafting and editing written, audiovisual, and digital content for web, social media, and print as needed in Spanish and English.
  • Engaging in daily liaison with civil society, academia, and NGOs in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic.
  • Assisting in the organization of events and collaborating with the public and private sectors on UN-related activities.
  • Promoting UN education and youth participation through cooperation with civil society. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications: a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme, but candidates should possess training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that would benefit the United Nations during their internship.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes either enrollment in or completion of a graduate school programme or the final academic year of a first university degree programme. This means that candidates should have a strong academic foundation that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship, particularly in fields related to communications, international relations, or public affairs.

Experience:
While no prior working experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant training, education, or skills that would contribute positively to the work of the United Nations. This could include coursework in communications, public relations, or related fields, as well as any volunteer or extracurricular activities that showcase relevant skills.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English is desirable, which would facilitate communication and collaboration within the UN system and with international partners.
