Job Overview:
The Driver position at IOM Ecuador involves a range of responsibilities centered around the safe and efficient operation of IOM vehicles. The role is crucial for ensuring that the organization's transportation needs are met while adhering to safety and maintenance protocols. The Driver will be responsible for driving assigned vehicles, managing their maintenance, and ensuring they are roadworthy. This includes conducting daily checks on various vehicle components, arranging for minor repairs, and keeping the vehicles clean. The Driver will also be tasked with maintaining records related to vehicle usage, including mileage and fuel consumption, and ensuring that vehicles are used only for official purposes as directed by the supervisor. Additionally, the Driver will assist with clerical duties when necessary, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to support the team in various capacities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Drive assigned IOM office vehicle(s) safely and responsibly.
  • Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) to ensure they are roadworthy, including daily checks of tires, brakes, engine oil, and fan belts.
  • Arrange for minor repairs and ensure that vehicles are kept clean and presentable.
  • Ensure that vehicles undergo regular service intervals as required.
  • Maintain records of spare parts for vehicle(s) and conduct monthly inventory checks.
  • Identify the most direct and safe routes to destinations, ensuring timely arrivals.
  • Ensure that IOM vehicle(s) are used solely for official/authorized business as advised by the supervisor.
  • Prepare daily log sheets and monthly reports summarizing vehicle statistics such as mileage and fuel consumption.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion in discussions involving IOM and its officials, taking appropriate actions to mitigate potential security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security threats. 1
  • Meet official personnel at airports and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as necessary. 1
  • Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other communications/items to and from the country office, keeping accurate records. 1
  • Assist country office staff with simple clerical duties as needed, such as answering calls and making photocopies. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school degree or certificate with a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. A valid national driver’s license is also required. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as experience in driving various makes and models of vehicles, is essential. Skills in minor vehicle repairs and familiarity with communication applications such as radio, email, and telephone are also necessary. Candidates should demonstrate safe and defensive driving skills, a strong understanding of local routes and road conditions, and basic vehicle maintenance and record-keeping abilities. A high sense of responsibility, confidentiality, and adherence to security procedures is crucial for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school degree or certificate, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience. Alternatively, candidates may hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. It is important that the educational qualifications are from accredited universities recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience, particularly in driving and vehicle maintenance. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations is essential, along with experience in operating a variety of vehicle makes and models. Candidates should also possess skills in minor vehicle repairs and be familiar with communication tools such as radio, email, and telephone applications.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process through written and/or oral assessments. While Spanish is required, knowledge of English or French would be considered an asset.

This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Ecuador will be considered.
