Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Communications Analyst will play a crucial role in the Inclusive Digital Transformation for Malawi (IDT4M) project, a four-year initiative running from 2024 to 202
  • This project aims to enhance Malawi's digital transformation by strengthening legal identity systems, improving digital governance, and expanding access to digital skills, particularly for women, youth, and marginalized communities. The Communications Analyst will support the project by managing communications and visibility functions, ensuring effective outreach and documentation of project results. This includes designing and disseminating communication materials, managing online platforms, and promoting the visibility of digital transformation efforts. The role is vital for raising awareness, engaging stakeholders, and sharing knowledge about the application of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve service delivery and equitable access to information in Malawi.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer Communications Analyst will undertake a variety of duties and responsibilities, including:
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a communications and visibility plan for the IDT4M project and e-Government initiatives, ensuring alignment with UNDP and partner guidelines.
  • Drafting, editing, and disseminating various communication products such as press releases, success stories, fact sheets, brochures, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Ensuring consistent branding and messaging across all communications materials.
  • Documenting project events, workshops, and trainings through high-quality photography, videography, and written content.
  • Managing and regularly updating social media pages and digital platforms related to the project and e-Government activities.
  • Supporting media engagement by preparing press kits, coordinating press coverage, and responding to media inquiries in consultation with UNDP and the Department of Information.
  • Monitoring media coverage and digital engagement, providing analytics and insights.
  • Documenting best practices, lessons learned, and success stories to support knowledge sharing and advocacy.
  • Designing and disseminating information, education, and communication (IEC) materials to raise awareness on digital transformation initiatives. 1
  • Facilitating visibility of contributions from government, development partners, academia, and the private sector. 1
  • Providing communications support to the Department of e-Government to strengthen its institutional communication functions. 1
  • Building capacity of project staff and counterparts in the use of digital communication tools and platforms. 1
  • Contributing to the preparation of donor reports, project briefs, and presentations as required. 1
  • Performing any other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a range of qualifications, including strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to draft and edit various types of communication products. Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms is essential, as is experience in managing social media and online content. The candidate should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility, as well as a commitment to continuous learning and professional development. A strong ethical foundation and respect for diversity are also important, along with the ability to work collaboratively in teams and build trust with stakeholders.

Educational Background:
Candidates should possess a degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in digital communication or media relations would be an advantage. Knowledge of the UN system and development issues, particularly in the context of Malawi, is also beneficial.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have prior experience in communications, preferably within a development or international organization. Experience in managing communications for projects related to digital transformation, governance, or social inclusion is highly desirable. Familiarity with media relations and knowledge management practices will also be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication for this position. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Malawi would be considered an asset, as it would enhance engagement with diverse communities and stakeholders.

This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning that the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials.
