The successful candidate will provide essential support through interpretation and translation services, ensuring effective communication with beneficiaries. The role involves making initial contact with beneficiaries, assisting with cultural mediation, and responding to inquiries through the project’s helpline. The Project Assistant will also be responsible for maintaining relationships with beneficiaries and stakeholders, identifying barriers to service access, and translating necessary documents. This position is vital for promoting social cohesion and inclusion within the community, and it requires a commitment to the humanitarian principles upheld by IOM.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Project Assistant (Operations) include:
Providing interpretation and translation services to beneficiaries, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
Making initial contact with beneficiaries and building respectful and trusting relationships.
Assisting with cultural mediation to facilitate the integration process.
Responding to calls received on the project’s helpline, identifying issues, and reporting them to the Project Assistant (Operations).
Strong work ethics and a commitment to humanitarian principles are essential.
A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school degree or certificate, with a preference for candidates holding a university degree from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, which ensures that the educational qualifications meet international standards.
Experience: Candidates should have previous work experience in a similar role, ideally within a multi-cultural environment. This experience is crucial for understanding the challenges faced by beneficiaries and for effectively supporting their integration into society. The role requires a combination of practical skills and knowledge that can only be gained through relevant work experience in humanitarian or social support settings.
Languages: Fluency in English and Greek is required for this position, both oral and written. Additionally, fluency in Arabic is mandatory. Proficiency in any other language will be considered an advantage, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish.
