Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in the Philippines offers a unique opportunity for young professionals to gain practical experience in a dynamic international environment. The intern will support the UN's efforts in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contribute to the Philippines' development priorities. This role involves engaging in economic and social research, policy analysis, and providing administrative support to the RCO. The intern will work closely with a team dedicated to strategic planning, partnerships, and advocacy, gaining insights into UN programming and multilateral engagement. The internship is designed to last between two to six months, providing a comprehensive understanding of the UN's operations and initiatives in the country.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that support the RCO's mission. Key duties include:
  • Research and Policy Analysis: Collecting and analyzing economic and social data relevant to the Philippines' 2024-2028 United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. Monitoring and summarizing recent trends and policy developments.
  • Report Preparation: Assisting in the preparation of briefing notes, policy briefs, and other materials for internal and external stakeholders. Drafting, editing, and formatting reports and presentations.
  • Coordination and Administrative Support: Organizing meetings, consultations, and events related to economic and social policy. Supporting the organization of hybrid and digitally enabled coordination meetings and workshops. Documenting meeting outcomes, including minutes and action points. The intern will report to the RCO Head of Office and collaborate with various team members.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be Filipino citizens and meet one of the following criteria: (a) currently enrolled in or have completed a graduate program (second university degree or equivalent) or (b) currently enrolled in or have completed the final year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree) in fields such as Economics, Development Studies, Political Economy, or Public Policy. Strong analytical, research, and writing skills are essential, along with familiarity with economic data sources and statistical tools like Excel or SPSS. Proficiency in standard software applications (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel) is required, and experience with innovative digital tools for data analysis is advantageous. Excellent communication and organizational skills are necessary, as well as a demonstrated interest in development issues and the work of the United Nations. The ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to team dynamics is crucial.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or a completed final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree) in relevant fields such as Economics, Development Studies, Political Economy, or Public Policy. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of economic and social policies and their implications for sustainable development.

Experience:
The internship is designed for individuals who may not have extensive professional experience but possess a strong academic background in relevant fields. While prior experience in research, policy analysis, or administrative support is beneficial, it is not mandatory. The focus is on providing an opportunity for recent graduates or students to gain practical experience and develop their skills in a professional setting.

Languages:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Filipino are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication within the UN and with external stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

Additional Notes:
This internship is a full-time, unpaid opportunity, requiring interns to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The duration of the internship is flexible, lasting between two to six months, depending on the candidate's availability.
