Job Overview: The Outreach and Communication Manager will play a pivotal role in promoting the Open Research Europe (ORE) platform, which is soon to be hosted at CERN. This position requires an experienced professional with a strong background in science communication and scholarly publishing. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive outreach, communication, and marketing strategies that engage the scientific community and promote the platform's mission. The role involves strategic communication, stakeholder engagement, vendor management, and digital communication, ensuring that ORE's objectives are met effectively and efficiently.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement outreach, communication, and marketing strategies aligned with ORE’s mission, in coordination with partners and funders.
Promote platform awareness among researchers, institutions, funders, and libraries.
Create messaging frameworks and materials tailored for diverse stakeholders.
Monitor and adjust communication strategies to ensure effectiveness and reach.
Build and maintain relationships with partners and project stakeholders.
Represent ORE at conferences, workshops, and community events to enhance visibility.
Coordinate with external vendors for marketing and content development, ensuring brand consistency.
Oversee the creation of promotional materials and manage vendor timelines and deliverables.
Manage ORE’s social media channels and digital presence, developing content calendars and overseeing daily operations.

Engage with the research community, monitor relevant trends, and track social media metrics and engagement.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in Science Communication, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in science communication, scholarly publishing outreach, open science initiatives, and research communication.
Proven experience managing social media channels for scientific or academic organizations.
Experience coordinating with external vendors or agencies for marketing and communications.
A strong network within open science, scholarly publishing, or research communities is preferred.
Deep understanding of the open access publishing and open science landscape is essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in fields such as Science Communication, Journalism, or Communications. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of science communication and effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders in the scientific community.
Experience: The position requires demonstrated experience in science communication, scholarly publishing outreach, and open science initiatives. Candidates should have a strong track record of managing social media channels for scientific or academic organizations and coordinating with external vendors for marketing and communications. A deep understanding of the open access publishing landscape is also essential, along with a strong network within the relevant communities.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory, with a commitment to learn French being a valuable asset. Proficiency in additional languages may enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and broaden outreach efforts.
Additional Notes: This position is a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The role requires a commitment of 40 hours per week and offers hybrid working flexibility. The job grade is classified as 6-7, and the reference for this job is RCS-SIS-OS-2025-273-LD.
