Job Overview: The Platform Engineer position is a critical role within the Information Technology division of the EBRD, focusing on the design, development, and support of hyperscale Azure architectures and containerized microservices. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering secure, highly-available, and resilient solutions through the implementation of CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), observability tools, and configuration management. This role requires a proactive approach to re-architecting legacy applications and orchestrating cloud-native services, ensuring that the organization remains at the forefront of cloud-first innovation. The Platform Engineer will collaborate with various teams, consult on best practices, and troubleshoot a range of issues from infrastructure to application performance, ultimately guiding the organization towards a more automated and efficient future.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Platform Engineer include but are not limited to: designing, implementing, and supporting hyperscale cloud architectures; developing and maintaining microservice-oriented, containerized solutions; consulting with other squads on DevOps methodologies; understanding and applying software development principles; troubleshooting application issues; managing infrastructure effectively; monitoring performance; collaborating with Managed Service Providers and Professional Service Partners; and ensuring the successful setup of CI/CD pipelines for production deployments. The role also involves provisioning platforms through IaC tools, managing package and dependency solutions, and utilizing observability tooling to enhance system performance and reliability.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess intermediate to advanced technology certifications relevant to the role, as well as entry-level service management certifications such as ITIL Foundation. A robust understanding of cloud-native technologies, particularly Microsoft Azure, is essential, along with experience in production environments utilizing containers and orchestration tools. Familiarity with enterprise-scale applications, API gateways, high availability architectures, and disaster recovery strategies is also required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong ability to apply DevOps tools and practices to both cloud and on-premise workloads, as well as experience in migrating workloads between these environments.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is typically required for this position. Advanced degrees or specialized training in cloud computing, DevOps practices, or related disciplines may be advantageous and enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The Platform Engineer should have a proven track record of experience in designing, implementing, and supporting cloud architectures, particularly in Azure environments.
