Job Posting Organization:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) was established in 1951 and is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration. IOM works closely with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. With offices in almost every country, IOM is trusted by its Member States for its deep domain knowledge and field expertise. The organization is dedicated to harnessing the full potential of migration and has strategic partnerships with other United Nations (UN) agencies and stakeholders in the UN Migration Network. IOM is committed to ensuring a workplace where all employees can thrive professionally, and it emphasizes a culture of inclusion and respect for diversity.

Job Overview:
The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM aims to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The programme is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in the field of migration, data analysis, and statistical methodologies. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced professionals and will be involved in various projects that contribute to IOM's mission of promoting humane and orderly migration. The successful candidate will integrate into the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) AKO unit, supporting the methodological design of DTM standard components and enhancing the statistical robustness of data collected across over 90 field operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will support statistical and data analysis activities, assist in global Information Management activities as part of the DTM, and engage in the optimization of Flow Monitoring methodologies. Responsibilities include data cleaning, pre-processing, and manipulation, as well as compiling, consolidating, validating, and disseminating statistics on migration flows and forced displacement. The intern will also draft, review, and edit statistical products, including reports and visual data products, ensuring clarity and compliance with IOM's editorial standards. Additionally, the intern will support the development of tools and guidance materials, and participate in revising survey methodologies and assessment forms as required. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), enrolled in a graduate school programme, or have graduated within the last 12 months. Applicants should have a working knowledge of at least one of IOM’s official languages (English, French, or Spanish). Proficiency in statistical and data software such as Stata, SAS, R, SPSS, or Python is required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Knowledge of data management and database tools is also essential.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in Statistics or Demography from an accredited academic institution is required. Alternatively, a university degree in the above fields with one year of professional experience in the data or statistical field is acceptable. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of migration data and the methodologies used in data collection and analysis.

Experience:
The position requires experience with applied statistics, particularly descriptive and inferential statistics. Candidates should have knowledge of IOM and DTM standards, as well as an understanding of migration statistics and operational data on flows. Experience in data cleaning, pre-processing, and manipulation techniques to ensure data quality and reliability is necessary. Familiarity with data collection methodologies related to migration and displacement flows is also important, along with the ability to develop written materials based on statistical analysis.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required, both oral and written. Knowledge of IOM’s official languages, which include French and Spanish, is considered an asset and will be evaluated during the selection process, potentially through written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The internship is subject to funding confirmation and will require certification of medical fitness for appointment, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned Government, where applicable. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan, free of charge, for the duration of the assignment. However, interns are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM has a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including discrimination and harassment. IOM does not charge a fee at any stage of its recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through the IOM online recruitment system.
