Job Overview:
The Communication Associate position is crucial for UNICEF's operations in Tindouf, Algeria, particularly in supporting the Sahrawi Refugee Response. This role involves implementing UNICEF's humanitarian communication, advocacy, and visibility agenda, ensuring that the realities faced by children, youth, and women in the refugee camps are accurately represented in both national and international outreach efforts. The Communication Associate will be responsible for producing high-quality content, engaging in digital storytelling, and enhancing field-level visibility in alignment with UNICEF's global standards. The position requires a proactive approach, creativity, cultural sensitivity, and a keen attention to detail, as the incumbent will translate field realities into compelling communication outputs. This role is instrumental in linking field evidence to national advocacy and donor visibility, thereby reinforcing UNICEF's strategic positioning as a leading humanitarian actor in the Sahrawi response.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communication Associate will undertake a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Chief of Field Office in Tindouf and in coordination with the Communication and Advocacy Section in Algiers. Key responsibilities include:
  • Communication Strategy Implementation (30%): Supporting the implementation of the SRRP-aligned Communication and Advocacy Strategy in Tindouf, contributing to the production of communication materials such as briefing notes, human-interest stories, images, videos, social media content, and website articles. The associate will also provide inputs for press releases and media materials, monitor content produced by partners, maintain the humanitarian content library, and support quarterly humanitarian reporting.
  • Digital Content Creation (25%): Producing engaging digital and social media content from the field, capturing high-quality photos and videos, coordinating content clearance, and monitoring digital engagement metrics.
  • Visibility and Branding (25%): Ensuring compliance with visibility and branding requirements across all humanitarian interventions, providing briefings to partners, and reviewing partner reports to ensure visibility commitments are met.
  • Communication Projects and Events (20%): Supporting communication initiatives that amplify children's voices, planning and organizing field-level communication events, and handling logistical and administrative aspects of these events. Overall, the Communication Associate's work will enhance UNICEF's visibility, improve the quality of communication outputs, and support advocacy efforts for the humanitarian program.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Communication Associate position should possess a strong background in communication, advocacy, or a related field. They should demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce high-quality content that aligns with UNICEF's standards. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams are essential. The candidate should also have experience in digital content creation and familiarity with social media platforms. Knowledge of humanitarian principles and child rights is highly desirable, as is the ability to work in challenging environments and adapt to changing circumstances.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in communication, journalism, social sciences, or a related field is required for the Communication Associate position. Advanced degrees or specialized training in communication or advocacy may be advantageous. Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2-3 years of professional experience in communication, advocacy, or a related field, preferably within a humanitarian or development context. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or in challenging environments is highly valued. The candidate should demonstrate a proven track record of producing high-quality communication materials and engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Arabic and/or French is highly desirable. The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages will enhance the candidate's ability to engage with various stakeholders and audiences.
