Job Overview: The Graphic Design Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's Data and Analytics Section by providing graphic design services for the 'For Every Child a Fair Future 2025 Progress Report.' This consultancy is aimed at enhancing the visual presentation of data and findings related to children's rights and welfare. The consultant will be responsible for the entire design process of the report, which includes conceptualization, layout, and ensuring that the final product adheres to UNICEF's branding and design standards. The consultant will also be tasked with creating various graphics, charts, and figures that will be integral to the report, thereby contributing to UNICEF's mission of using data to inform policy and programmatic efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant's primary responsibilities will include:
Conceptualizing and designing the layout of the 2025 progress report, which is expected to be approximately 75 pages long and include at least 25 graphics, charts, figures, and several tables and maps. The final deliverables will include a PDF and native InDesign files by April 30, 202
Designing heatmaps in both compressed formats and fold-out pages to ensure visibility of all countries and indicators for both online and printed versions, with a deadline of January 31, 202
Creating charts and graphs for the accompanying communication strategy, including materials for web and country briefs, due by February 28, 202
Ensuring the report is available in three UN languages other than English, which may involve transferring InDesign files to language-specific designers for finalization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in graphic design, with a specialization in publication layout/design and data visualization. Proven expertise in creating infographics, data figures, publications, PowerPoint presentations, country profiles, maps, and other data-driven products is essential. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) is required. Additionally, candidates must have a completed profile in UNICEF's e-Recruitment system and submit a financial proposal detailing costs per deliverable and total lump-sum for the assignment.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in graphic design, communications, or related social sciences is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding design principles and effective communication strategies relevant to UNICEF's mission.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in graphic design, particularly in publication layout and data visualization. Candidates should have a strong portfolio demonstrating their ability to create visually compelling and informative designs that effectively communicate complex data and concepts.
Languages: While proficiency in English is mandatory, knowledge of additional UN languages is highly desirable. This includes languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian, which will be beneficial for the design of the report in multiple languages.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is set to run from January 1, 2026, to April 30, 2026, and is primarily remote. Selected candidates will be required to have valid health insurance coverage at the time of contract award. Payment will be contingent upon the satisfactory submission of deliverables, and UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment if standards are not met. Candidates must also ensure compliance with visa and health insurance requirements for the duration of the contract. Additionally, selected candidates must confirm their fully vaccinated status against COVID-19, although this requirement does not apply to those working remotely.
