The specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies that engage communities and promote behavior change. The role requires a deep understanding of risk communication, social and behavior change models, and the ability to translate complex health information into accessible messaging for diverse audiences. The specialist will work closely with local stakeholders, community members, and project teams to ensure that health messaging is relevant, impactful, and aligned with national and US government priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of the Evidence-based Public Health Messaging and Community Engagement Specialist include assisting in the delivery of capacity-building activities, preparing training materials, coordinating logistics, and supporting training sessions for stakeholders. The specialist will support KAP (Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices) study activities, including data collection, entry, cleaning, and preliminary analysis. They will assist in the implementation of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) campaigns by drafting communication materials, coordinating with partners, and tracking dissemination efforts. The role also involves organizing community engagement activities, such as local meetings and focus groups, to collect and document community feedback. Additionally, the specialist will help organize inter-agency exercises, monitor social media for misinformation, and support monitoring and evaluation efforts by assisting in data collection and reporting. The specialist will coordinate with stakeholders, prepare documentation and reports, and perform other supportive tasks as assigned to ensure smooth operations of emergency response activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in communication, social sciences, public health, or a related field, with a Master’s degree preferred. They should have 6-8 years of experience in implementing risk communication, social and behavior change initiatives, community engagement, mass media, and health advocacy projects focused on zoonotic and communicable diseases. Strong technical, programming, and reporting skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Proven experience in developing multimedia and community engagement approaches is also required, as well as the ability to synthesize complex information into clear communication products.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in communication, social sciences, public health, or a related field.
