  • The organization focuses on investigating serious international crimes in Myanmar, particularly those related to sexual and gender-based crimes and crimes against children. It operates with a mission to ensure accountability for these crimes and to support victims and affected communities. The Mechanism is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and works in collaboration with various international bodies and civil society organizations to gather and analyze information relevant to its mandate.

Job Overview:
The Associate Information Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the investigations of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM). This position is integral to the Collection, Analysis and Sharing Section (CASS) and involves conducting preliminary reviews and analyses of information in both Myanmar languages and English, specifically focusing on sexual and gender-based crimes (SGBC) and crimes against and affecting children (CAAC). The incumbent will utilize analytical software and develop research strategies to identify relevant evidence and open-source information that will aid in the advancement of investigations. The role requires a strong emphasis on gender and intersectional analysis, ensuring that the investigations are comprehensive and sensitive to the complexities of the issues at hand. The Associate Information Analyst will also be responsible for maintaining internal databases and ensuring that information is preserved for future criminal investigations or prosecutions. This position demands a high level of professionalism, analytical skills, and the ability to work under pressure while managing conflicting priorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Information Analyst include:
  • Conducting preliminary reviews and analyses of information related to SGBC and CAAC, utilizing analytical software to support investigations.
  • Gathering, collecting, evaluating, and analyzing information to identify relevance, gaps, and inconsistencies that inform investigative activities.
  • Assisting in the development of research and analysis strategies, including conducting gender and intersectional analysis.
  • Organizing and synthesizing information to advance investigations and respond to requests for assistance.
  • Liaising and coordinating with relevant organizations and individuals, making logistical arrangements for incidents related to SGBC or CAAC.
  • Assisting in organizing and conducting interviews of witnesses, particularly those related to SGBC or CAAC.
  • Maintaining and updating internal databases and using electronic information systems for evidence collection and preservation.
  • Participating in briefings and conferences with IIMM personnel and external actors, including national authorities and civil society organizations.
  • Performing other duties as required to support the IIMM's mandate.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Associate Information Analyst position include:
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct investigative analysis of sexual and gender-based crimes and crimes against children.
  • Strong analytical and evaluative skills, with a focus on gender-sensitive and child-friendly approaches.
  • Knowledge of strategies for complex criminal investigations and building criminal case files.
  • Ability to analyze complex political and military activities related to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
  • Good judgment in handling assignments and the ability to manage conflicting priorities.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in high-tech environments.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in fields such as Asian studies, conflict or security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security studies, women's or gender studies, information management, law, social science, or related disciplines. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible work experience analyzing serious international crimes, including SGBC and/or CAAC, is required. Experience analyzing information related to Myanmar is desirable, as is work with women's organizations, LGBTQI+ organizations, or other civil society organizations in Myanmar. Familiarity with analytical software and experience in investigative, prosecutorial, or judicial institutions at the national or international level are also desirable.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are English and Burmese, as these are essential for effective communication within the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, proficiency in either Haka-Chin, Kachin, Rakhine, Rohingya, or Shan is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse communities and stakeholders.
