Job Overview: The role of the Education Coordinator is to provide technical support related to the development of educational programs within the framework of Basic Education Competence in the area/office, in accordance with NRC's policies, guidelines, procedures, and knowledge of global and regional strategies. The Education Coordinator will be responsible for developing and energizing Emergency Education methodologies, contributing to the development of strategies in Education Competence, project proposals, and providing information on the needs and gaps for restoring the right to education for children, adolescents, and youth (NNAJ) with access to educational services in an emergency context. This position requires a proactive approach to ensure that educational programs are effectively implemented and adapted to the needs of the community, particularly in challenging environments.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Education Coordinator will manage field staff involved in Education Competence projects, including leaders, officers, technical assistants, and educational support services. Responsibilities include managing and implementing the project portfolio for Education Competence, ensuring high technical quality in activities, budgets, and project documentation as delegated by the Project Manager (PM). Regular progress reports must be provided to the PM (or AM and CCS if no PM is present). The coordinator will ensure that projects target participants in greatest need of protection, explore and evaluate new and better ways to access quality education, and promote ideas for improvement and necessary changes in project activities. Additionally, the coordinator will ensure capacity development of project staff through methodologies and strategies that strengthen key skills, serve as a liaison with relevant local educational authorities and stakeholders, and promote the rights of internally displaced/repatriated individuals according to advocacy strategies. Specific responsibilities include ensuring the implementation of NRC's Education projects in the area according to program strategy, internal procedures, and donor requirements, actively participating in project management cycles, analyzing and updating information on the regional educational sector context, fostering community participation in planning phases, constructing proposals for donors, and developing reports on ongoing or completed projects. The coordinator will also develop guidelines, tools, and methodologies for implementing educational activities in the region, control costs and monitor budgets, and represent NRC in institutional and coordination spaces for project implementation with educational authorities and key actors in the education sector.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a professional degree in Education and/or Social Sciences (such as Sociology, Anthropology, Pedagogy, Psychology, etc.) with a specialization in project management. A minimum of three (3) years of relevant coordination experience is required, along with specific technical knowledge for the humanitarian and educational sectors. Candidates should have prior experience working in complex and volatile contexts, documented technical competencies related to the responsibilities of the position, and proven results in relation to the responsibilities of the role. Intermediate knowledge of the English language is also necessary, as well as experience in budget management and project monitoring, including the ability to analyze variations and propose financial adjustments.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a professional degree in Education or Social Sciences, with a specialization in project management. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of educational programs and the specific needs of vulnerable populations in emergency contexts.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in coordination roles, particularly in the fields of education and humanitarian assistance. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the challenges faced in educational settings during emergencies and possess the ability to adapt strategies to meet the needs of affected communities.
Languages: Proficiency in Spanish is mandatory, and candidates should have at least an intermediate level of English. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in regions where NRC operates.
Additional Notes: This position may require frequent travel to areas where endemic diseases are present. The role is full-time and may involve working in challenging environments.
