Job Overview: The National Committee Relations Specialist will play a crucial role in driving UNRWA's National Committee (NatCom) strategy. This position involves cultivating and consolidating existing partnerships while also assessing opportunities for expansion into new markets. The specialist will work under the supervision of the Chief of the Private Sector Partnerships Division (PSP) and will be responsible for ensuring that NatCom strategies align with UNRWA's overall Resource Mobilization Strategy. The role requires developing tailored growth pathways for each NatCom, identifying new opportunities, and preparing feasibility analyses. The specialist will also facilitate communication and collaboration among NatComs, ensuring they are included in key fundraising and advocacy discussions. This position is expected to deliver quarterly performance and impact reports to PSP leadership and engage in regular office hours, connecting remotely or from the HQ in Amman.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National Committee Relations Specialist include:
Strategic Alignment & Growth: Ensure NatCom strategies align with UNRWA's PSP strategy and Resource Mobilization Strategy; develop tailored growth pathways for each NatCom; identify and prioritize opportunities for new NatComs; prepare feasibility analyses and entry strategies.
Relationship Management & Cultivation: Coordinate communication with NatComs; facilitate reviews and planning sessions; support collaboration and joint initiatives among NatComs.
Support, Facilitation & Representation: Ensure NatComs are included in fundraising discussions; connect them with UNRWA specialists; facilitate the flow of NatCom perspectives into decision-making processes.
Assessment & Development of New NatComs: Conduct market scans and feasibility studies; produce recommendations for new NatCom establishment; facilitate the setup of new NatComs.
Income Maximization & Accountability: Maximize income for UNRWA; establish performance monitoring frameworks; provide analysis and recommendations to PSP leadership.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the National Committee Relations Specialist position include: an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in International Relations, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, or a related field. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in partnership management, external relations, or fundraising, ideally with National Committees, NGOs, or comparable institutions. Candidates must also have a proven record of cultivating strategic partnerships and supporting organizational growth, experience in conducting feasibility assessments, and strong skills in project management and relationship building.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in fields such as International Relations, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, or related disciplines. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of partnership management and fundraising within the context of international organizations.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in partnership management, external relations, or fundraising. This experience should ideally include work with National Committees, NGOs, or similar institutions. Additionally, candidates must have at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA and their country of nationality, unless they are already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System.
Languages: The position requires an excellent command of spoken and written English. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the regions where UNRWA operates.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is for a duration of 6 months, with a possibility of extension based on need and budget availability. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The consultancy is equivalent to a P3 level position, with a daily rate of $31
Travel to NatCom countries may be required, and if the consultancy is conducted remotely, the consultant is expected to travel to UNRWA Headquarters in Amman for one week every three months. It is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process.
