Job Overview: The Nutrition Officer (NO-1) will report to the Chief of Nutrition (P-4) and receive technical supervision from the Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Specialist (P-3). This role involves providing professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for nutrition programs and projects. The incumbent will be instrumental in advancing UNICEF’s SBC agenda within nutrition programs by designing and implementing evidence-based strategies that promote positive nutrition practices, such as optimal breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and healthy diets. This will be achieved through community engagement, advocacy, and social and behavior change approaches. The position is critical in addressing the nutritional transition in Mexico, which is characterized by a triple burden of malnutrition, necessitating innovative and effective interventions to improve health and dietary behaviors.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: supporting program development and planning, managing and monitoring program implementation, providing technical and operational support to ensure effective program delivery, building networks and partnerships to enhance program reach and impact, and fostering innovation and knowledge management within the organization. The role also involves capacity building to ensure that stakeholders are equipped to implement nutrition interventions effectively. The Nutrition Officer will work closely with various partners, including government entities, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to scale up successful initiatives and promote policy changes that benefit child nutrition.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor's Degree) in fields such as nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, or another health-related science field. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of one year of professional experience in areas related to nutrition, public health, nutrition planning and management, or maternal, infant, and child health/nutrition care. Experience in social development program planning, communication for development, or public advocacy is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields such as nutrition, public health, or health sciences. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of nutrition and health interventions and for effectively contributing to UNICEF's mission in Mexico.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of professional experience in nutrition, public health, or related fields. Candidates with experience in program planning, community engagement, and social behavior change will be preferred. Experience working in school environments and familiarity with developing country contexts, particularly in emergencies, will be considered advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, and proficiency in English is also required. Candidates who possess additional language skills may have an advantage, particularly if they can communicate effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
