Job Overview: The Fisheries & Water Consultant role is integral to Vanuatu’s largest climate adaptation project, focusing on community-based resource management and climate resilience. The consultant will provide operational and program quality support to the Fisheries and Water Sector Leads and the Project Management Unit (PMU). This position involves developing Community Fisheries Management Plans and Community Water Resource Management Plans, as well as community awareness initiatives. The consultant will work closely with the VCCRP Project Management Unit and Sector Leads to ensure effective implementation of these plans. This is a 12-month consultancy with the possibility of extension based on performance and project requirements. The role is designed for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of communities affected by climate change and resource management challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for collating, verifying, and inputting data into Community Fisheries Management Plans and Community Water Resource Management Plans. They will support the progression of management plans for relevant approvals and revisions, ensuring that feedback is shared back with the communities involved. The consultant will assist in designing and producing awareness materials, including community billboards, to promote community-led adaptation efforts. Additionally, they will provide operational and logistical support for fisheries and water field missions, update monitoring and tracking tools for Community Management Plans, and conduct GIS mapping of conservation areas to support community resource management plans. Flexibility is essential as the consultant will be required to support both fisheries and water sectors.
